are the rings that come on the Mahle kits any good for the big stroker motors or is it better to get Grant, Total Seal, Wiseco or maybe some other brand?

You can either buy just the 2nd total seal ring for about $75.00 or you can get the full total seal set for about $100.00. I run the full total seal set.

Total seals supposedly give hp by allowing minumum possible compression leak. I could feel no difference when I switched to them on a motor that only had two rides on it. Also, some people feel the total seal rings will wear a cylinder faster than Mahle rings.

i ran them , and switched back to mahle rings , they will wear out the cylinders in a high compression application to where you have to replace them once it starts smoking & usually eliminates being able to just re-ring a piston , but they last a little longer than mahle's ( imo )!!

I run mahle top & oil ring & total seal 2nd ring . Have race the eng 2 year with the same cylinders . You may have to file the rings for proper ring gap.
