Anyone ever do this or run this setup. Ive been wondering about it, If nothing else it looks cool, Pros, Cons? Definitly looks like it cools way better

I ran one on my 2332 Turbo Motor It seemed to work fine for the Turbo application that typically runs hotter. I have however heard pros and cons about the way it cools. Soom like Jake Rabie (type 4 expert) has done testing and two of the cylinders run hotter than the othe two. Of cource Jake is also trying sell his DTM shrould setup so I suspect there is a little bias there.

I was told the same thing about the cooling of the Porsche shroud being inferior, but it was from an engine builder who didn't sell one. :? The ones who did sell one would just say "Why else would Porsche use this one???" :? My 2332 never ran hot once with that fan on it. The only have three gripes with them. One: The fan weighs so much that even with a serpentine belt it would still squeak a little right when you would hammer the throttle and when down shifting. Two: Of the ones I looked at; Bernie Bergmann's (WARNING!!! FAN IS GREAT....DON'T BUY ENGINE UNDERNEATH IT FROM HIM!!!!)is the only way to get away from a $350 60 amp Porsche alternator that can't hardly run 2 daylighters. Three: The Porsche Shroud covers every available mounting point for a power steering setup that would be BOLT ON for any normal VW. That's my two dollars worth on that subject because it is an expensive one.

Good points made. But they look so cool! lol One guy said it makes some cool sounding noise with that big fan too haha..As far as a squeak when ya hammer it i dont think that would be to big of a bother what scares me is what your sayin about the alternator seeing how i have 4 6in lights on the front of my buggy

they make more drag on the motor, I've heard as much as a 10 hp loss.

After hrs of reading last night Im clueless everyone has a different story , Its hard to determine But some people say the 5 blade fan uses less power, and vise versa with the 11 blade.

Here is Jake Rabys DTM for a type 1 motor. It uses the T1 fan and alt. Might be worth looking at.

The only real way to know is to use 4 thermal couples and test the cooling of each set up.
