I found this on line but have never heard of anyone using it. Anyone ever run anything like this before?

I have 3 of these out of chevy cobalts and was goin to put one in the buggy but never got around to it.

Steve, do you have the steering ecu and the aftermarket module that simulates the speed and engine signal required to make the EPS work?

no, wish i did but I was told you can use a reostat to make it work.

You would need to know were to connect it to etc. There is 2 signals to contend with. Any info avaliable? I am looking to Insatll EPS on my Commander eventually. The Unisteer is a "G" note and I will not pay that.

The ones i have have the module right on them and the schematics I got from gm have a positiv and neg with 60 amp fuse. Then it has two high speed lan inputs. thats where they hook up the dial from radioshack and you can dial in howmuck power steering you wnat. I just dont know witch dial to buy and hook up.

steve what do you mean by dial? like a potentiometer?

It looks like the this unit has everything you need to hook it up. I guess the dial adjustment takes the place of ecu.

that immediately got my attention for mt rzr but it said 45 amp connection that's out of the question

You could still use it however a second battery may be required if your running a lot of other loads likelitght etc. Even the Unisteer requires a 30 amp circuit. Keep in mind that the max current draw will be aproximalty 25% less the the breaker size. Also that the unit only draws that under the extreme conditions. Normal loads would be way less on the electrical system.

A buddy of mine is running one of these, and says its great! The geomotry doesn't quit sound right, but I havent seen it yet. His uncle or something designs them for gm and ford I think and he kows how to make it work (the program or whatever)

We meet a guy at D&K during the finals that is running a electric rack off of a 2011 ford explorer. I think his son inlaw works at the plant that makes them. They had the engineers reprogram the unit so it thinks the car is at idle. He wired it to a toggle on the dash so he could shut it off during high speed driving, you could turn it with 1 finger lock to lock. His son inlaw is checking with his company to see if he can buy these, have them reprogramed and sell for less then 1000. I'm hoping he see this thread and chimes in with some info.

YA, the guy you guys are talking about is a buddy of mine. He is trying to work it out to get more, but doesnt know yet when or if he can get any.

I am wondering about that unit from England on Ebay and if it would have to be in some type of waterproof enclosure. Seems like with an electric motor and the controls, water is going to be bad news.

Since they are typically Installed under the dash in a car you would have to protect them from water to some extent. The Unisteer EPS is very similar and is used on all the Side X Sides like the RZR etc. They need to be washed down and are subjected to the enviroment.

Easier to just use the same as we use - a PSA electric pump with a normal valve system on the column and ram on the rack - the shock loadings through the column increase otherwise with the vauxhall-type electric columns, so you might have a nasty shock the day you hit a rut wrong
