Since I am street legal in GA, I am unfortunately required to pass emissions every year or pay for enough parts to justify a waiver.. It is not that bad, once a year I get to buy some new parts..

This year, I was thinking about purchasing a CB electronic fuel injection system. Has anyone else installed an electronic fuel injection..

If so, did it make a big difference in power...reliability...

Are there any other brands that I should consider?

Fuel injection is very nice to have on any VW powered buggy, I have thought about getting one when I had my Packrat, but I went Webers 44 IDF instead, I have personally seen a buggy ran with a set of the CB Performance injection kit and it ran very well.

Im probably going to try the CB EFI myself next season. I think Odyknuck said he ran the original style system.

I wish I could say that I have installed mine ......but I just havent been able to get anything at all done on my buggy. Although I did pick up some Weld beadlocks for the rear last week. & I think i found a good deal on a set of 33" boggers too. How ever I'm looking forward to the install of the CB EFI & a fresh 2332 also. Its starting to slow down for me so I'll be in the "woodshed" wrenching away soon. Besides, I havent made a Wellsville, Memorial Day, Woodsbuggy event yet & I only live 5 miles away :?

I ran the original Analog CB system (sold) on my Turbo 2332 and I liked it a lot. It had the remote 4 knob adjuster under the dash and made it real simple to turn especially using the Turbo. One of the knobs was for turbo trasition fuel curve. It was an open loop system, meaning there was no AFR sensor however it still did well. You did have to retune once and awhile for weather conditions. I hear the new CB Digital system is superior and has AFR. You just have to have a Laptop in your front seat to tune. I'm used to that with my Turbo Subie setup lol.

Have you looked at Megasquirt?
I am currently working on 2 builds, one for my street rail and 1 for my woodsbuggy. If you can fab parts and have a good junkyard then Megasquirt is hard to beat. I will have less than 1K in both of my builds and 1 of them will be a turbo system.
Good Luck
Kenric

I have a buddy that runs the CB injection, and to put it short and sweet, i dont see any advantages unless your running a turbo. With a little work, the webers seem to be just fine. The CB kit (at least the one he runs) is as basic as fuel injection gets. It's not "smart" (meaning it only does what is told) and seems to complicate things without any real advantages. We have had to stop on the trail to do somthing to his motor more times than any of the carbed motors. For the money, it doesnt seem worth it to me. Thats just my opinion

I have seen the same results. I know a guy that POURED money all over a CB setup, paying "professionals" to get it right, but it never was as responsive as his Dellortos. He sold it and put his carbs back on. Not ideal for all offroad conditions, but they may be awesome for street and/or trail, but good duals will perform very well in most all situations. Its REALLY hard to beat a pair of good condition, well tuned dual Webers or Dells, IMO.

I run Megasquirt (MSEXTRA/1) on my buggy http://www.woodsbuggy.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=10&jfile=viewtopic.php&f=17&t=3584 Here is a list of some of the things Megasquirt extra can do. Rev control, nitrous control, boost control, stepper motor idle control, ignition control. It can also be adapted to about any engine using the original sensors. All of this is tunable by you through a connection to a laptop. You can also log all of the sensor inputs while you drive (a laptop must be carried with you for this) to see what is going on at a later time. Here is a snippet from one of my early log files when I was doing some tuning. Image.
Buy it here ---> http://www.diyautotune.com/ and ask questions here ---> http://www.megamanual.com/forums.htm.

I bought a used CB fuel injection from a guy in Florida 3 years ago and installed on my engine. I had installed a couple sets on other buggys and they never had problems so I wanted one. Before that I had run 45 and 48 dells and loved them. The injection always starts and idles sideways on a hill or in the dead of winter and I have to go help other people clean idle jets so I won't forget how much fun it is. Now watch me have to be towed out of the woods because my computer farted.

I have the Redline Weber system on my buggy. I really like it. I will never go back to carburetors again. It took a while to figure out how to program it but once I talked to the right person and he explained it in a way I understand, I was able to get it running great.
I started off building a Megasquirt system but ran out of patience before I completed it. Got a bonus at work about 4 years ago and bought the Redline stuff. It ran about 2 grand.
I don't regret. It will run at any angle or no matter how rough it gets it always runs the same. That's what I like. I feel the Weber's may have been more "crisp" with the throttle response but the overall drive ability is superior hands down with the EFI. I don't have a really high performance motor in my buggy anyhow. I run 93 octane and have the engine set up conservative so it will last a long time.

I dont know if you should go to EFI. There really seems to be some good bonding going on when all the guys gather round a carb to figure out the problem. I think you will miss it.
