count me in. My uncle built hand controls for a polaris ranger a few years back for a friend that died of cancer, he never got to drive it... Forward on a lever was brakes, pull back was throttle. Thats the way inertia acts, so if you decided that route.

You guys are awesome.
Russ and I spoke on the phone today.
The generosity of the group here almost brings a tear to the eye.

60sunroof (Rich) works here on the weekends but full time for a screen print shop.
We plan on maybe making some shirts to sell to raise funds too.

Can anyone come up with a design in Adobe Illustrator?
We are thinking "The Jason Young Project" at the top.
Some sort of buggy image in the center and
"Soon to Ride again" at the bottom.

Be offline till Monday, thanks guys........... 8)

Hey Everyone.
I just wanted to let you all know that I have set up a paypal account for those who want to contribute to Jays "hand controls" buggy build. contributions can be sent by going to PayPal.com and entering this email address( R.Elder66@comcast.net )and i will then give Jay the moneys for his build. Jay and I live only 1 block from each other and we speak or see each other daily.
I hope i have done this correctly. as far as i could tell,,money can be sent to this e-mail address and it will go into the paypal account.Ive never sent money via paypal so im a little unsure.

We need a for sure list of things he needs for the build. I talked to Gary today I think a auto-stick would be the ticket for him. That is the type of tranny that the Blond haired Lady (my wife) has in her buggy that smacked some of yall around at D&K.   Some guy even lost his BALLS over it. We had fun with all of yall hope to see all of you soon.

Autostick conversion is awesome. But there is still the need for a clutch when changing gears. It is very do-able with a hand clutch becuz there is NO effort required to push Angela's clutch. A full automatic will work and never need for a clutch at all, (I'm trying to get my lame tranny man to finish the one I'm doing for my wife's buggy.)
Anyways, a full auto with a babychain setup would not even require the modifications to the tranny I've had to get done, especially if you keep the tire size and weight reasonable.

JAy2cool, I think I have found a set of the bus bearing housings needed to do the babychain setup. If yall are considering this option, let me know and I will go get them for y'all and ship 'em. Prolly send them to Marty. He and I have talked about buildin you a set of arms if you want them.

Autstick conversion is a little more costly to get going cuz you need a donor bus tranny and a donor autostick plus the adapter and custom wet clutch, but it is proven and very reliable and I think you lose less power than conventional straight full auto setup.

Which ever way Jay decides to go is what we will try to do.
Bruce and Marty both have called me giving me the down low on both conversions.
I'll be getting with Jay soon so he can figure out what might work best for him.

Still need ideas on a T-shirt design.
We got the shirts and screening worked out just gotta have a design.

Thanks guys!

David Hill AKA "David" has donated his $25.00 gift certificate from Drews to Jays fund. I have contacted Drews about it, and they said OK. Thank you David. Gary just call them about getting it.

Howdy y'all, I just wanted to let you know again how much I appreciate all of your help and suggestions...Thank You. Lets hold off on shipping any parts yet as I'm not sure which route I am wanting to go. I want to keep it as simple and cheap as possible. I really like the setup that I have so hopefully this weekend Russ and I can get out in the garage and try and figure some of this out. I want to get a motorcycle clutch lever and master cylinder and mount it on the buggy and hook it up to my clutch slave cylinder to see if I have the strength to disengage the clutch with it also to see if there is enough volume in the master cylinder. If this works great then all we have to worry about is the steering and the controls on the handlebars. If not I dont think I want to go to an automatic but maybe an autostick...???Well see. As far as steering maybe a rack and pinion system with a steering quickener and definitely power steering, as someone said though 1/4 turn lock to lock may be hard to do. I also want to say thank yu to all of you that donated this past weekend at the hill climb, again you are all really great. Please keep the ideas coming.

Just a thought:
With a hand throttle on the steering wheel, you cant gas the buggy and use cutters at the same time.
This is bad especially for hillclimbing. Maybe use a piece of handlebar tubing as a single handled cutter handle, and you could have throttle control and use cutters simultaneously??

Maybe y'all already considered this, but thought I'd bring it up just in case.

Use a hand throttle like a motorcycle grafted onto the cutter? Put A button on top of the throttle that switches the cutter to both back wheels with solenoids and valves. Right hand is now brakes, cutters, and throttle., Plus tranny selector.

Left hand steers and clutches ( with lever like motorcycle but maybe with a power assist) If you go full auto you could use this clutch lever for front brakes .

My plan was to move my dual handle cutters to the left of my seat so now with the throttle on the handlebars on the right I can still grab my cutters with my left hand and gas it on up the hill withmy right hand and still steer. The solenoids and buttons sound great if we have to go that route but I want to try to keep it simple with as few things as possible to break down. And I was thinking that the clutch dont have to be hydraulic it can be cable driven if I can pull it in. If I cant does anyone know of a hydraulic assist that could be used on it? Thanks for the posts.

Depending on what pressure plate you use will be your desider on cable or hydraulic clutch or both. I know my stage 3 is a Bizitch to push in with hydro pedals. On cars that do trans swaps that swap from cable to hydro they run a cable to a pivit point that pushs or pulls the hydro master cylinder arm. Dont know if that helps any lol bored so thought i would put in my 2 cents

This is going to be an interesting buggy!

if you wnat a cable clutch you may be able to rig up a couple of pulleys to make it easier kinda like a block and tackle or snatch block setup......just an idea

Just remember anything you do to add leverage means you add stroke length. So if you make it easier to pull you have to pull further. Just keep that in mind for location.

I'll donate a set of weld on bead locks (if your running 15" wheels). I know it won't help get you back in the woods, but it'll help once your out there. I'll even weld them on too.

It's almost ride time, we gotta get this guy back out in the woods...

it would be an honor to help out with this build. i am a poor white boy in the middle of my own expensive buggy build but i do work at a motorcycle salvage yard. we only do street bikes so we have no thumb throttles or atv stuff. we do however have a ton of different master cylinders from various bikes. i think the biggest bore master we have is 5/8 or maybe 3/4. i don't know if they have enough volume because they only have about 3/4 of an inch stroke. let me know anything motorcycle related you want and i would be more than happy to send it on its way to you guys!

Mike, Thats awesome, I appreciate it so much. I know we will definitely need a right side brake lever with the master cylinder for my back brakes and a twist throttle preferably with a start/kill switch and a left side clutch lever (cable driven) including cable. And a set of handle bars, I'm not sure which size or style would be best so use your best judgement. Message me back and let me know if you can get these parts and I will figure out the best place to have them shipped (probabaly to Davis Racing). Again thank you so much. Jay

its my pleasure. i will gather some stuff up on monday and send it wherever you like. i am off for the weekend and cant get to a computer to easily. let me know if you come up with anything else over the weekend. i'll take some pictures of handlebars i have in stock so you can make the decision because i don't know what you have in mind. the brake master cylinder, clutch lever and perch, and the twist grip throttle with a kill switch and starter button won't be a problem at all. and i'll try to find the longest clutch cable i have. i can also try to get you a left bar switch with light controls, turn signals, and a horn button (that you can rig up for nitrous ) if you would like to go that route too.

mike
once again it is my pleasure to help in any way i can.
