Hey all.

Got a customer, friend and all around nice guy needing our help.
Jason, Jay or on here I think as Jay2cool, is an avid off road buggy guy.
Nothing better for him than to get in the woods with family and friends.

Jay was seriously injured late last year in a tree falling accident.
It got him pretty bad.
He is, for now, paralyzed from about the waist down.

We need to figure out how we can modify his buggy so he can go to the woods with us once again.
We are open to any and all suggestions.
Hand controls, power steering, maybe even a bus automatic could be in the works.

We have no budget, meaning with all the expenses he and his family have endured there is no extra funds for his buggy.
I'm thinking we can have some fundraisers and raffles to make his dream a reality.

Have at it.........and thanks.

there is one guy that drives score trucks, hes paralized, and i seen his hand controls, it was a motorcycle twist throttle on a lever for the brakes, so he could activate the throttle and push forward to activate the breaks. i forgot who drives that truck.

there is an artical in either hotVW's or sand sports of a guy in a wheel chair with a bulue rail with i think a buick engine and an auto trans from the same car and he had swinging doors and hand controls for the throttle and that was where the turn signals would be...i dont have the mag around the house and i have been looking for the last 30 mins through my piles of mags...someone on here might have it...it might give a good start!

Auto tranny and a hand throttle like a boat. rig a brake into it so forward throttle and backwords breaks. And I've seen a cutter system that works based on your steering wheel. Been a few yrs since I saw it. Set up a poker run or something and I'll come spend some cash. I can help get a tight turning power steering setup also.

Let us know a PayPal account to donate to,,,and an address to ship parts to and a list of parts needed. An auto with babychains might be something to consider.

I would think an auto trans would be the way to go hand brake similar to a staging brake with a extra long custom handle for leverage with a motorcycle clutch handle (since it has its own mount and made for a cable ) facing forward and parallel with the brake handle to squeeze for a throttle and then push or pull the brake handle which ever he prefers to stop with the same hand and never has to take his hand off it . leaving the other hand on the wheel at all times

I like the handle bar part, but hard to make it steer with 1/4 turn lock to lock. Might be a challenge.

ive seen late model dirt cars, drag cars, and rock crawlers with hand controls so why not a buggy

i believe the s-10 power steering with a steering quickner like some of the dirt cars use would work along with a honda pilot or odyssey type brake and throttle setup on the steering wheel and i believe i would mount the wheel mounted brake on the same side as the cutting brakes

as far as drivetrain goes a bus auto with babychains might work or maybe even a setup like passats 12 toed cat or the suby trans they are talking about in the tranny section might work and i think maybe a fuel injected setup would probably be better so he wouldnt have to worry about the carbs acting up

Makes a guy feel pretty good when he puts out a post asking for a bit of help and y'all respond like this.

As soon as the weather breaks, we'll get his buggy down here and take some extensive pictures.
He has a 1915cc engine and a 5 rib IIRC.
Might be a Berrien chassis, don't recall right off hand.
Jay and Russ (Russ the Buss on here) were in here Saturday.
He was pretty stoked about maybe getting back into the woods.

Keep the suggestions coming and we'll help our brother keep the dream alive.

Thank you very much.

I will be taking donations at the hill climb this weekend.
If you would like, you can also donate your "One Day Park Reimbursement" to the fund for Jay.

Hey Everyone..I thought I would jump in here and post some pics of Jays Buggy. But 1st I want to say Thank You for all of your support to A Very Good Friend Of mine.I'm Touched that there are so many More people Just Like Jay ! Jay is the most giving person I think Ive ever met and theres nothing he wouldnt do to help anyone.Jay got Me into Buggy-n and Helped Me build(rebuild) My 1st buggy and Ive only got to ride with Him A few times....And thats not enough. I told jay right after he came home from the hospital that we were just gonna have to figure out how to put hand controls on his buggy so he could ride. I got Jay out of the house last Saturday for a road trip to Davis Racing to pick up my trailing arms that I had dropped off the day before to have new balljoints installed. When we got there I could tell Jay was excited and didnt waste any time getting out of the van.We hung out with Gary and crew for a couple hours and I could see In jays Face that He was Happy and felt good..Im not sure which Jay would rather do,,Drive his buggy or work on it,,he loves working on his buggy or my buggy,he'll even work on your buggy to get you back on the trail !..We gotta get Jay back on the trail..he's startin to ride wheelies in his wheelchair and hes good at it !.

It was nice to see Jay and Russ last saturday at the shop,These guys don't live any to close to the shop
I bet it's 1 hour each way.

Rich.

I have a brand new Howe steering quickener I can donate if you decide to go that route. I agree the Honda Pilot ATV Steering wheel is a good option as it has both brake controls, thumb throttle, starter and kill switch and light swith on board.

It occured to me that I also have a freshly rebuilt Sweet power steering pump with a 6" pulley that can also be donated to the cause if needed.

Ive located an auto tranny on craigslist and am willing to buy it,but im not sure if they are strong enough to handle bigger tires. Now i have a friend in Tenessee that runs a stick-o-matic and swears by it,but that still requires a clutch right?Let me know what tranny you are wanting to use and i will provide it.

I don't have any parts but will gladly donate. Paypal is an excellent option.
