For those that are coming to Wellsville for the first time this Memorial day weekend there are some things you should know.

1. Holiday weekends are PACKED full of people on everything from golf carts to mega dollar buggies and 4x4's.
2. It is quite possibly the most fun you can have on Earth while still fully clothed.
3. It can be EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. In the last fifteen years, there have been far more holiday weekends where someone was killed then there have been with no death. Someone dieing while the helicopter is landing doesn't even make the news there.
4. If it can happen, it will happen at Wellsville...Both good and bad.
5. It is NOT the place for young kids on holiday weekends. It's like a bar on a Saturday night, but with gunfire, drugs, and high speed drunk driving at all times of day and night!
6. There is safety in numbers. Don't venture out on the trails alone EVER.
7. If your ride breaks down on the trail don't leave it alone for any reason. It will either not be there when you get back or it will be on fire.
8. It is completely lawless on the trails, no cops ever. If you want to hit a bong at noon while driving up a hill while fifty people watch...Have at it but it has been done before.

To some it might sound like I am painting an ugly picture of the place. To me it is where I grew up and have been riding for 31 years. It is a ton of fun. But, the Wellsville brand of fun scares the hell out of some people.

Sounds like Thanksgiving dinner at my house without the kids being mean.

My brother was up there last year. He said "I don't know how they keep that place open, that helicopter never stopped all night!"

I plan to be there for at least 4 days Memorial day weekend. I cannot wait. Anyone who can make it should make it. You will not regret it.
I am going to try to get a few Hillclimbers together friday morning and go to Hillsville and climb Mad Dog.

Where did you get this list? Wellsville Chamber of Commerce? I have to say that I have witnessed most of what is on the list though. I love the lawlessnes of the place.

It is safe to say that there will be at least one death this Memorial Day. Most likely it will be a guy that is drunk with no helmet on a quad. Over the years I have personally watched 7 people die at Wellsville. I have heard the stories of many more told by the nurses and doctors at the local hospital. I only know of ONE person that was killed that was not drunk and was wearing a helmet. That death was in 1987 on Gas Well Hill and due to a design flaw of the current nerf bars. Buggies are cool to cruise around and drink beer in but quads and beer with no helmet = DEATH.

The helicopter lands in Wellsville all too often but sometimes it circles the area for fun. A guy I went to school with (Chuck) works as a medic for Life Flight in the area. Sometimes on holiday weekends they fly around Wellsville for the pilots to do some flight tests while looking at cool stuff. Plus if anything happens they are in the area. Chuck is a good guy that also likes trail riding in Jeeps. I hope that if people on here meet Chuck on the trail he is not working!

I just wrote the list to warn anyone looking for a "family oriented event". Not hard for me to write...I've been there a few times. I would like to meet anyone that started going there before the summer of 1978...hell, even anyone that has been going there since the 80's. I have had the pleasure of meeting many great people there, but I have also met some complete morons there too. I love it but it's not for everyone, especially the holidays!

Sounds about like the turkey run we have here. Huge quantities of moonshine, beer, and weed are consumed with absolutely no regard for who sees what. "The Law" pretty much stops with the blacktop. I've never seen anyones ride get torched though. I bet there would be a shooting real soon afterwards if it did happen.

Yup, shootings happen in Wellsville too! The rules are simple. Treat people decent and you don't get shot. Get caught being a complete ass and things could get ugly. The problem is the ones that don't get caught being an ass.

Come on man. You are not going to get shot. I have never seen a gun. I have pissed 4x4 guys off and been flipped off but never grazed. I would not be afraid to bring kids along. You just have to be careful. I wouldn't take them to scooby at 3am.

i rode wellsville in the 80's when i was a kid, we never had any problems back then. fast forward to today.... been going there since 2000, been camping at yellowcreek since 2002 you can find me there damn near every weekend in the summer. i have never had a serious problem with anyone, nor have any of my friends that ride there. i agree with statements 1-4 and 7-8. number 5 "It is NOT the place for young kids on holiday weekends" while it does get busy on the holidays, my daughter has a blast cruising the golf cart around camp and so do a boat load of other kids. i take her out on the trails and she loves it. deans right, i wont take her out at 3 am.
6. "There is safety in numbers. Don't venture out on the trails alone EVER" the first part is true in any situation but
Don't venture out on the trails alone EVER? i go out by myself and the the worst situation i ran into was a black bear on the trail, i tried to catch up to him to say hello but, he didnt want to be social that day. it is a good idea to ride with others that is what i was taught but that was in case of mechanical breakdown or if someone got hurt. these are my thoughts and my views of wellsville and by no means meant to discredit andrew in any way. always use common sense and be aware of you surroundings.

I've been riding there since 92 and have never heard of someone getting shot. I personally have NEVER had any problems there I know all the locals wheather there buggiers, 4x4 drivers or dirt bike or quad riders. Everyone knows me there as "Hawaiian Dave" and I get along with all of them. My only advice is "don't take your kids to any of the party spots after dark". Such as: Scooby, Killer or Triple trouble. Only because they might see, hear or smell something you don't want them too. Please don't let any of this discourage any of you from attending the party. It will be another awesome time. Just ask any one who attended last year.

Sounds like your describing Livingston, excepts half them weren't clothed most of the time. Oh the tales I could tell.
