Kinda on stand still right now. I decided to get a couple more rides out of the 2.2. I plan to get back into it after Curt's Thanksgiving ride/hillclimb at Bitter Creek. I just been getting some of the purchases out of the way..like Stage 4 PP, new 6 puck, air filter, etc.. Anybody got an extra Suby powersteering pump with bracket laying around?

The rear cage,,skid pan won't clear like it is,,presently it has about a 45 degree angle and it will need to be a 90. I also will need to move the radiator forward a few inches so the air inlet tube will clear. The throttle cable will need to be rerouted also. I have a lot of modifying to do.

some motor mount pics,

Image
this pic shows the 2x2's roughed in, the mounts are in the factory location using the factory mount minus the rubber. It is a little to close to the bell housing but it is more than I used with the 2.2. I may add something else a little further back later.

I trimmed it down,,and may run a brace from one side to the other,,,horizontally,,,before running a tube up to the point where two tubes meet straight up from the trimmed end. I got to figure out a way to attach it there where I can take it off when necessary.

Hey Bug, Why not fab up a couple of flanges and bolt to your bottom skid plate tubes on each side? That's what I did. I'll take a few pics if you want

I have given that a lot of thought. I think by the time I get through making the skid pan sturdy enough I can hang it from above and leave a little cushion between the pan and engine. The suby hangs a little lower than the Honda and I bottom out a lot. I may be wrong as usual :?

Why not weld a vertical plate at that spot. Then use another tube or flat stock from the new mount up to the new vertical plate. That way you can unbolt it for service. It would be plenty strong and easy to fab.

And just run a bolt through the plate and verticle tube? Is there any reason to make this adjustable?

If you want to bolt thru the tube then a sleeve will need to be welded in to alleviate crushing of the tube and loose bolts. I was thinking more on the lines of welding a plate on the existing frame juction your talking about and also a plate on the end of the tube your going to weld to the new motor mounts. Make the plates about 2' X 2" or so and drill 2 3/8" holes in both plates. The plates would overlap were the holes line up when welded on. You could cap the end of the tube with a round plate and then weld the plate to the top in a "T" fashion. Because every thing is solid mount there is no need to make it adjustable. Well at least untill the first time you hit something that is lol. BTW its coming along nice.

Something to keep in mind when extending the rear section. The farther you get behind the the wheels the steeper the approche angle. Meaning you have less clearence to drag going from flat ground up a hill and visa versa. You essentially lose ground clearence. Food for thought.
