ok so i am idling, i hold down the clutch, put it into 1st, rev the engin a little, let up the clutch, and it starts to chatter and the engin shakes. but i get it into 1st after the chatter. this does not hapen to reverse/2nd/3rd and 4th. this is a car vw tranny. what is wrong and how do i fix this?

If you are using a clutch cable rather than hydraulic clutch, you need to use the stock bowden tube to handle the frame flexing due to motor torque that is seen mainly when taking off. It could also be broken motor mounts or clutch disc.

you need a picture of the clutch arm side of the trany so we can see if you have the bowden tube or not...

By the picture you have posted I can see you don't have that Bowden tube.
Sometimes you can get away with not having one in a buggy
Most times, not.

i can use the clutch to shift into 2nd right of the start
i added a pic of what i think is the area that turboblue is talking about

watch engin if shakes more than frame . trans mounts lose or wishbone brace may be to fare foward might help good luck

but if i am not moving and i shift into 2nd and let up the clutch it does not shutter

Do you have a strap over the back of the trany and also do you have the right trany mount there is one for a bus trans and one for a car trans.

THE PROB IS FIXED!! the prob was that some of the tranny mounts were lose
