That Buick 3800 buggy I have with the baby chains. It only has like a 8.5 comp. ratio so it can basically use 87 gas. Everyday pump gas has 10% ethanol in it and is basically weak. I guess it is made from corn. But out by the lake where they sell the old fashioned 100% gasoline for boats, I stopped and got a 5 gal jug and put it in the Buick single seater and I'm telling y'all it made a noticeable 10% difference in power. We all know octane don't mean power. It is just there for pinging and detonation issues so you can run high compression ratios. I normally run 93 with ethanol but the 87 100% gas is noticeably better. Boats lawnmowers anything with carbs don't like ethanol because it eats up and dissolves rubber seals hoses and corrodes aluminum. Modern cars are made for it. So if you have a low c.r. motor, try it. But the temp gauge went from 165 to 175. The price was the same as everyday 87 and it only came in 87. Know your cr 1st. I don't want you to over heat or pre detonate and hurt your motor. A stock beetle motor would love it. That's what it ran on back in the day. Maybe it comes in 93 100% gas I don't know.

actually with a computerized motor higher octane allows the computer to advance the timing more which equals more power.

They are trying to increase the ethanol content to 15% instead of 10% . it horrible stuff !!!! My unknown vw motor only runs on pure gas .. So does my daily driver . It runs like crap and misses and sputters on the crap they sell now. I'm lucky and have 3 has stations within 30 minutes of home that sells all three grades of pure gas. ( ethanol free ). Buts it about 40 cents a gallon higher then regular gas. Plus I get better mpg so it works out pretty well. 28 mpg in my Nissan pickup. versus 24 on the new crap gas .. :D

Very true. These new cars such as my 16 year old Passat buggy comes from the factory with 10:1. Old beetles had flat top pistons and a '72 bug had 65 hp. The 73 had dished pistons and only had 46 hp for emission issues.
