hey people....

im running a 95 inch beeline with 2+2 arms, 31x15.50 ditch diggers, disc brakes, 3 rib, bus to bus joints, 1641, 110 cam, progressive 2 barrel, electronic ignition, thinkin a lil more power would be fun....

leanin toward the ecotec swap in the near future and am in the process of gathering parts....

what ecotec engine (i.e. year, displacement, model, etc.....) should i be looking for???

i like the horsepower of the 2.4 but ive been told the 2.4s have the drive by wire throttle and i really dont wanna have to mess with that....

ive been told the early (2000, 2001, etc....) 2.2s have the cable throttle...

i dont want to have the baddest buggy around...but id like to be able to point my rig at a hill and have the confidence to know that power is not the reason i didnt make it.

will my 3 rib hold the power of a 2.2???
somebody steer me straight please!

Early years are cable throttle. Mines a 2.2 from a 2002 pontiac grand am. It's in a heavy buggy and i love it! The cavaliers and sunfires had the cable throttle bodys also.

I believe you can change the DBW throttle body on the 2.4 to a mechanical with the right ECU. I say just use the DBW. Talk to Southern Buggies. He had a line on a 2.4 with the harness, ECU and throttle pedal for around $650 I think. He can alter the harness for $150 and flash the ECU for $125 or $150 if I remember right. Hard to pass up that deal. The 2.4 gets you about 30 more horsepower and a newer engine. We have a yard up here that sells complete engines, minus alternator and power steering for $400. They both are readily available. Terry Fryer has a 2.4 for sale also.

Man that 1641 will last you along time with basic maintenance. Just add oil and go. Sounds like you have an engine for you next project.

You will have a blast. It will not break any speed records but if it is tuned correctly it will scream. Most buggies weigh in at less than the nettle car the engine came in.
