While in the process of getting jayrod out of the woods with a broken c.v.
i found a trail that would get him out to twp. road 306 which is right near the entrance to the village.
I parked my buggy on the side of the road while we tried to figure out how to pull jayrod up a small hill and on to the road.
Apparently there is a lot of crime in the area because johnny law rolled up on me and proceeded to tell me saline twp
has a strict policy about being on the road. He wrote me a ticket for $250.00 and told me he wouldn't tow my buggy because i was
helping my friend. Upon handing me the ticket he asked if i had proof of insurance i told him my auto ins.follows me, he checked the box yes.
He then told me its a 6 month lcs. suspension with no ins.
I called Jefferson county court to ask about payment. I was told 250 plus 95 court cost. The nice lady on the phone
told me to come to court and that the judge is usually a fair guy. Lets do the math 2 hour drive there 1hour court, 2 hour drive back.
fuel cost total about 65, lost time at work... more then i care to think about.
I just think its b.s. that this little township fills there coffers on the backs of the offroad community. I was not racing up and down the road
my buggy was parked on the side of the road. $345.00 just because i was parked!!!! might as well put a gun in my back i would felt better
about being robbed.
So this weekend cost me 100.00 in fuel for the weekend, 50.00 in food and beer, 345.00 b.s. ticket, ...........watching Brad roll down cry baby hill....PRICELESS!!!!

I am just curious here but do you have a tag and insurance? If so why would you be in violation of any law. If you are not tagged and were off the right of way and on the WMA or property of the area your riding then the A__Hole has no right to ticket you at all.

I just do not understand why law enforcement like to pick on law abiding citizens out having some legal fun in search of an adrenaline rush.

Tell the judge your buggy fell off the trailer and maybe you'll just get and unsecured load ticket. Of course today that may be just as much as the one you got. Pretty crappy considering the people that offroad there basically are supporting the economy. You'd think they would have helped you instead of ticketed you. I do have tags and insurance but a cop like that probably would have ticketed me for something too. Idiots sometimes.

I hope you understand I support you and your case here. If you were parked on the right of way (township owned area along the road then he can ticket you, however it is a dick move as you were pulling a buddy to the side of the road to load him out. I have insurance and a plate on my rail so I can drive it on the road with the family. I still think the Cop was an A__Hole for ticketing you. We as a group travel a distance to use the areas that allow us to enjoy our passion. We bring real $$$$ to the local economy as ecotourist (I know it is a stretch) We are after all climbing hills and traversing tough terrain to watch birds and bees.

my buggy was parked on the side of the road, i was not in it. i understand he's doing his job and i also understand he gave me a break by not towing it and a possible 6 month lcs. suspension. But 345.00 seems like an excessive amount.

If you feel that strongly take it to court and plead your case, the judge will more than likely agree that you were not driving on the road or right of way. Just like as if it fell off a trailer. I agree that $345.00 is excessive but we are in a bust economy and the police have to fund their pay some how since teacher, fire fighters, and law enforcement budgets are the first to get slashed.

I have been ticketed for laws I broke (most for speeding) but parking on the side of the road shouldn't be one.

I just wanna say, thanks Bill, for taking one for the team. that really did suck. but it would have been worse if we would have took that trail about a hundred foot to the left, we all would have been on that road when the cop showed up. saline township would have ended up with $1380 plus they would have probably towed us all. it was kind of funny while bill and the cop were talking, Brad was playing the fudge the police song over the CB, and it was just blaring.

I cant believe they are still harassing you guys like that. Thats just going a little to far. We had a big ride here in bama a few weeks ago and the cops rolled up on us. They actually passed one buggy going down the road. They wasnt mad or anything they just said stay off the road as much as posssible. Hell at one point I was running about 80mph down a 4 lane highway straight into the lights of a cop and he did nothing. The cops in Ohio are just assholes. They delt us fits when we was there for the hillclimb.

Well..... (GULP) As a fellow lawdog we as a community try not to degrade a fellow officer, as the job is very stressful and anybody can armchair quarter back any situation. I don't know what the situation is there, if its like here in Trevorton Pa where guys ride the roads all the time and cause accidents I can see why the cop might have been a little pissed, a 2 car accident can take a cop off the street for 6 hours of straight paperwork... Trust me accident reports SUCK.. I am not justifying what the cop did, but try to put the shoes on the other feet before u bash Mr local dog.. But then again I have met some fellow officers that were major assholes..... And I am sure FTP song in the background did not help..... Funny though : ) As for the situation with where the car was parked and not in a lane of welllllll.... If u were closer I would plead not guilty and hear hype case before the judge. I'm just sayin....

We don't road ride. I've been on that road one time getting towed. And it was at the same spot. But didn't get caught. Bill wasn't on the road he was sitting on the side. The officer could've real easy told him to go back in the woods. Just like them towing vehicles along the road by the gate and there are no no parking signs anywhere.

I think I'd dispute it and say you weren't on the "road". Technically you may have been but playing dumb and stating what you think is fact may lessen the fine at least.

Bill , I went to court because they suspended my Licence once and I fought and won .
A untitled off highway vehicle cannot be titled , just like a quad or Dirtbike , , if it was titled and on road without insurance thats a different story . They had a wright up on wellsville trails talking about this bs that's going on . The village made a statement after the hillclimb bs that they had contacted them and made some time of plead with them ..... I don't think it worked at all !
The best thing that I read on a legal site is when a cop puts you in a situation , put them in one also !
The one I use is I inform them that I am voice recording them which will be used in my own public defense if a problem escolades into a situation that benefits me in court .
Good luck and keep us up on what happens with officer farva .... :?
Keep the nose between the ditches and the smokys off your britches !

I do agree with the opinion that a warning, at the most, was the right thing to do. Some folks worship police while others have little use for them. You were robbed of course, only now it is down with a pen and not a gun.

i don't think FTP playing in the background had any effect with the outcome, in fact i did see the humor in it at the time. Going to court 2 hrs. away really isn't worth it ...just gonna lick my wounds pay the fine and move on. If this post keeps just one of us buggy guys off the road ill be fine with that.
I appreciate the thought of "bucking up" but that wont be necessary, just get me out of the woods safely if im ever in that situation or at least keep the beer flowing till help arrives. :D
I understand the cop was doing his job but this zero tolerance policy is B.S. just wish they would rethink that.
