Anyone contemplating building your own side by side? No way Im paying $15000 for something that I could build for much less and be alot safer. The roll bars in these things are junk. I like the idea though of something smaller then my buggy that can drive into the bed of a full size truck. Ive scene a few people so far but it seems most would rather fork out the big bucks and just buy one.

There has been several deaths after the cage has collapsed. Its a very thin walled tubing. But there are abunch of aftermarket options out there for these things for a stronger cage.

But thats not all the things I dont like. I dont like the auto belt drive stuff. I love having gear options and slamming gears. Also the suspension that come on them are just good enough for normal trail riding but not good enough for me. I just dont see spending all that money on something that needs major mods to make what I want. Might as well build your own.

The Passat set up is waiting on ya.lol.Built it for $5k trailer and all.Look on an old post on pg.5 Fuel EFFICIENT 93 OCTANE 175hp$450 STOCK MOTOR SOUND.I know people throw rocks at me on woodsbuggy but why?I've since replaced the upside down truck leaf springs with trailing arms and air bags. A arms on the front and shortened the front end back from 133inches to 113. I absolutly love it. Temp stays at 175 all day all year.Hard to flip over backwards because of motor position. The steeper the climb the more weight comes back to the back tires. If I grooved the TSL 40's it would be dangerous.Awesome ground hieght. 5 speed with 11.12 final drive so 1st - 3rd are pulling gears.4th-5th are for pavement. The off road ride is like a Cadillac. The rear trailing arm is 42 inches long!Front a arms have incredible long travel with small air bags.

The manufacturers know the stock "roll cage" wouldn't even make a solid child's swing set so they offer aftermarket bars from what I was told for around $1300. But after lifting $15,000 out of your wallet that is mere chump change.

Ive already built a full size buggy. Just interested in making something smaller. Really just want to know what people like a things people would like to change on there RZR's, commanders, wildcats, what ever utv you got. I like the edge barracuda design or the 2 seater piranha

I drove a friends Wildcat labor day it was a blast going WFO in Wellsville. I would not change a thing for the first 20 mins. Even at 60+ mph in the woods it soaks up everything. BUT THEN..... The belt broke. That what I hate about them, the CVT well that and the price!

I'd say you could design and build a nice frame around a motorcycle engine. they have reverse gearboxes, expensive but available. About $3500 for a decent gear box. Even if you figure $10,000 for everything else you are still ahead. I'd say you could do a really nice side by side or mini rail for less than a RZR. Plus we get to watch a cool build thread.

I have been working on building just that but it has been a slow process!

Picked up engine 6 years ago and the frame 3 years ago (Old mid engine sand drag frame)......... I started actual work this spring when I picked up the transaxle. Now that I have heat in the garage I hope to finish it this winter
I'm converting it from a swing axle to IRS right now
