While out riding today my buddys buggy started leaking oil around the oil pump. Shortly after it started smoking from the breather box. When I removed the oil fill cap it was sending smoke signals to Alaska. What happened to his engine and has anybody else experienced this?

That is what we were thinking it was hot but the external oil cooler was cool to the touch. It was still idling fine and sounded ok.

When my 1641 started smokin from the breather box it then proceeded to toast the rod bearings 30min later. Just my experience, Id say it was just really hot?

If the oil cooler was still cool to the touch after the motor got hot, would be checking my plumbing. I have seen the oil lines hooked up wrong and cause that and eventually ruin a motor. To the best of my knoledge the oil block that bolts on top of the case, the top fitting goes to the in on the oil filter. Out of the oil filter to the cooler then back to the bottom fittng on top of the case. If its plumbed correct and still no change I would chech and make sure the rubber orings that go under the blockon top of the case arent collapse shut. Ive seen that before to.
