Thats would be the best way to go,but Drews never had any and i didn't want to wait to order one.Mine is all rusted up again from setting all winter. My hole distributer is also rusted up.Was going to start with new button and cap then clean dist. and try to seal it up better this time.

Mine did the same thing. I guess its common on MSD distributors. Look online about it, tons of people have problems with rust and MSD. I sprayed mine down with WD-40 after cleaning it and its good now.

I did a search on my Carquest dealer site and I think a 85-87 2.3 turbo T-Bird cap works.
They list 3 different caps so you may have to match it up at your local parts store.

All are similar to this one.

has anybody ever got a grey msd brand cap for a msd distributor?

i ordered 2 from summit racing ( they look like the ones above except for they have brass post ) and they were in msd box's but all the other msd brand caps i have seen were red :|

the reason im asking is, i'm having trouble with the cap not fitting correctly, for some reason when you go to tighen the cap down it wants to rock up on the opposite side, and it dont matter which side you tighten first :?

the first one i tightened one side a little and then the other till it was tight and i thought it was gonna be ok, but when i went out to the shop the next day i looked and it had cracked pretty bad on both sides right above the screws while sitting overnight

Chris im pretty sure that the cap has to go on one way mine has a square peg on one side and a round peg on the other. Maybe you'll get lucky and just turn it 180 degrees.

Jeg's part numbers-----cap 121-8475
Rotor 121-8470

You can get them next day as long as you ordered them by 9pm the day before.

yeah brian i thought i might have done that on the first one, but i made sure on the second one and it done the same thing, and for some reason they keep getting these big ole green "buuggers" on the inside terminals causing it to act like its got a stopped up jet or fowled plug or something :?
