I may be wrong but unless it was a oddball I haven't heard of or was put in aftermarket the 4:86 ratio only came from the factory in the 5 rib trans, a 6 rib trans will be a 4:57 ratio

I had a 4.86 put in my 6 rib. I sent a 4.86 R/P from a side shift to Eric DeBord and he did a little machining to it so it would fit a nose cone 6 rib. Their are also some 4.83's in some side shifts as well.

I stand corrected, never had any dealings with side shift stuff, was just assuming he meant a nose shift and may have confused the 5 rib ratio with the 6 rib ratio 8)

It would have to be after market r&p was trying to see if someone had spare before I dropped 400-800 on new r&p

it dont have to be unless you just want to spend the money. the side shift will fit with minimal machining

correct me if im wrong, but didnt some of the side shifts that shifted in the front housing come in a 4.86 flavor?? a buddy has a trans on the shelf and thats what gear its suppose to be.. that style can be converted to a nose shift by changing the intermediate houseing and installing a nose cone. i changed a SS 4.56 over the same way for a lil over a hundred bucks
