Wanting to buy a Rail buggy that has a clean title and street legal. I want a fixer upper...but I want a good chasis and platform to start from. This is a project for my 13 year old son...let him tear it all down and rebuild it from the ground up. He has 3 years and a few thousand dollars of put into it over the next 3 years. Wanting to spend less than $2500 to get started. Send me pics if you have one with all the specs please. billwebb@greenhills.net

Will you adopt me.. Please... :D :D

You need to update your profile with your location. Depending on your state will drastically impact your ability to make it street legal.

Good Luck. make sure to have your son start an account with woodsbuggy. He can ask all the questions he wants to. There are lots of knowledgeable people on here and most of us have children of our own and would be more than happy to help.

Thanks,
We live in Northwest Missouri.... I see plenty of for sale buggies that are already titled and street legal, won't that title transfer just like and Auto?

Yes and No... You have to be careful. A lot of dune buggies have been titled using a VW Bug vin number. In many cases that may work fine. The proper way to Title a buggy is to have the state inspect the buggy and issue a VIN number. However, most states will not issue VIN numbers to buggys anymore so you have to find a buggy already titled.

Legally, you can use the VW Bug VIN if you keep some % of the chassis. I do not know how much. Most MANX style buggies can use a VW Bug VIN because they maintain the pan and VIN from the original car. Sand Rails are different, there is not much if any of any original car on a Sand Rail.

The biggest risk to using a VW Bug title is your insurance. They may insure it even if you tell them what it is but if you ever got in an accident or had a big claim, your insurance could claim it is not the vehicle they insured.

Another challenge with using a VW Bug Title is the police. They could look up your Tag and harass you about a VW Bug VIN.

Both of my buggies are Titled as "Special Constructed" Vehicles. I registered one in 1988 and I bought the other one that was Titled in 1976.

Good Luck.
