no. the torsion bars are not the same length.if you change spring plates you will have to change bars also,the double spring plates use the longer torsion bars.the torsion is housing is the same though.chad

the housing is the same.if you use the double spring plates then you have to use the correct length torsion bars and those would be the long ones i think they are around 27 inches long and then you have single plates that have a torsion bar that is like 25 inches long and then there is a single plate that uses the flat torsion bushing cover (with out the hole,torsion bars do not stick out of housing) and they use a torsion bar that is around 22 inches long.so if you change spring plates then make sure you have the correct length torsion bars also.hope this explains a little better.chad

You can just bolt on double spring plates there is no difference. I did it and several have done it. You do not need longer bars or anything. The only thing you WILL need is longer bolts to bolt on your cover. Clock them to 31-32 degrees. (Stock on the bars is 23 in a beetle) |

The only torsion that has the flat cover, with nothing sticking out of the housing, is a swingaxle or a modified one. You can use swingaxle torsion bars and swing axle covers and spring plates on your IRS housing, then cut and redrill the swing springplates so they are the same dimensions as IRS springplates and then will bolt up to your trailing ams. Pretty slick setup, but the shorter bars act different and you might have to mess with your preload several times to get it where you want it. If your bars have been in a buggy for awhile, you may want to put a lil more than 32 degress on them. I had adjusted my bars up by 2 degress at a time. Started at 32, ended up at 38 and they still squatted after a couple hours riding. Got some "virgin" bars out of a beetle the next go round, knocked 'em in at 34, been just how I like 'em for four rides now. |

there are single plates that has the shorter torsion bars,if yours does have the longer bars you will have to change them.they do have a single plate that runs the long ones all i was trying to say is make sure you have the right ones before you invest time and money on the wrong things.i also have changed alot of these out and they are a diffrence in some of the single plates torsoin bar lengths.chad

My single plate bars are 25 in. long,so im assuming the double's are 27 in.but i think i got it figured out now,thanks alot guy's. |

hold on and i will take you a picture and show you what i mean.it has to do with the length of your spring plate as to how far the torsion bar sticks out,but if you have the 25 inch ones i say you will have to change them to run double spring plates.chad

Just wondering, are the double ones that much stronger. I have broke lots of things on my buggy but I have never bent a spring place. I guess it could happen during a roll or landing wrong off a jump.. |

It makes it a double shear mount system. MUCH stronger couldn't say exactly how much but I would venture to say it was double the strength. |

i have never seen a spring plate break before but the doubles don't flex as much as the singles when they travel up.there really isn't that much flex but i would say that the doubles are stronger they would have to be.i take a piece of steel plate and cut it to fit under both of the plates and weld it to my torsion to make the stops wider, that way the single plate on the inside doesnt shear the stops off like it does on alot of buggys and let the torsion drop down farther,and yes i know limit straps would stop that to but i've still not taken the time to order me a set yet.lol.chad
