had a good time with odyknuck, madmike and hawiian dave, just wish we could of rode longer we were just getting warmed up. pics were taken with a cell phone, not the best but you get the idea.

Has anyone done anything with parallel swing trailing arms? What I mean is the inboard and outboard pivots are parallel to the centerline of the rear torsion housing. This would keep the tires flat to the ground through out it's travel. I'm going to be building a set of 3X5 arms and wondered if a parallel set up has any advantages or disavantages. Any thoughts or suggestions? |

Looks like I jinxed myself big time. During my ride at Wellsville with DVS1, PlumberBill and Odyknuck on Saterday I managed to tear off my passenger side trailing arm. Pictures to follow from PlumberBill which should be interesting. Now I need a new set of arms. I guess I'll be known as Tripod or something for a while. BIG thanx to all for getting it out of the woods and loading it back onto the trailer. It won't be forgotten. |

I have never seen that damage before. You must have hit HARD. I'm not sure about the idea of keeping the wheel flat throughout it's arch. The axle may bind up in the center of your wheel travel. To do what you are thinking I would think you would need an axle could slide in and out. I may be wrong. |

I think I hit a tree when we were taking that back trail up to The Forbidden Zone, where PlumberBill got stuck. I think that's where things got started and it wasen't long from there till it unhinged. No they are not Chinise crap, they came from a design I got from another web site whos name I won't mention. What failed was the 1/8" plate on the outside of the arm by the bearing housing, it just tore the bearing house right through. The welds were all intact with big chunks hanging off. The replacement arms, 2 X 5 with all 930 parts, they are already started and I don't think I'll break these.

Yes I did exceed the design limitations on that one, live and learn. Hell all I'm doing is relocating the weak spot, stronger arms, 930 CV's and axles. What gives next, stub axles, inner pivots your guess is as good as mine. It's safe to say it won't be trailing arms again. |
