Whats the pros and cons between 6 wider and stock width trying to decide what one to buy |

The stock width beam is a little harder to bend and limits the wheel travel. The 6" wider beam allows more wheel travel BUT it's easier to bend because more of it sticks out from the frame ends. Most put some kind of brace between the beam ends and the frame, but they still can bend. I built 3 or 4 beams out of some heavy wall DOM, no one has bent one yet. That's pretty much it. |

I bought a stock width because I wanted to make sure I would fit between trees and I wish I bought a wider beam. My tires would rub the frame at full turn |

Got a +6 beam at the end of last season and was very concerned about the extra width. Figured I would be eating trees all day long. Turns out that it was a great move. I run stock rims on the front to avoid that little bit of extra width but absolutely love it. Its a lot easier to stay out of ruts and such now that the front wheels track pretty even with the back wheels. I do notice the extra stress on the beam ... thinking about adding some extra bracing. I have dented a couple nice shiny VW hubcaps but never really eat any trees. If you are going to go wider I would recommend either adding some extra bracing or looking back now I would have hit Mike up for a custom heavy duty beam. |

My dads buggy was 15 yrs old with 6 inch wider beam ,over it. He took 2 fronts and cut them, cut springs inside and put back together . Years before they sold them. It had 4 set screws on center beam. I hits tree running 40 mph at wilburns and bent it a little .18 yrs later. He rode at jemison the hole time and never bent it. You know how ruff Mandy and other hills were. IMO |

I run a 12in over beam make sure you brace it good ! They bend easy even crmo,ask me how I know? The key is not to hit s#it an lay off the sauce. |

The beam that Afterburnt made for hillaholic is not commercially available. It was custom made with him in mind. All I can say is lotsa luck with the commercial stuff and diagonal the crap out of it. PlumberBill has one of my beams, Odyknuck has one, LouDog has one, JRK has one and my Funco has one. If they bend one, they have WAY bigger problems.

Mine is a 3' beam. I think it's 2" wider than stock. I had a 2" x .125 chromoly beam but bent it on that roll off of crybaby hill. Now I'm running a 2-1/4" x .250 dom beam. If that bends I think I'll quit riding. |
