I have a dumb question probably about suspension travel in my buggy. I am building a older sandtoys dune buggy and it has a kingpin frontend and only 7 inches between the rails where the tie rods go through. I am wondering if this is going to hinder the suspension travel if I do use a rack and longer arms and such. How much travel will I be limited to? |

Well you can get a basic idea with some simple algebra. figure out the length from inner joints to the frame rails. = x then from the frame rails to the spindle mounts. = y z= total movement minus some from when it turns. ((y/x)+1)7.5=z It will give you a rough estimate as long as the neutral position of the trailing arms puts the tie rods in the middle of the frame rails. I think this works, lol. |

Thanks but I haven't purchased a new beam yet and I was trying to decide between a warrior and dsrace a arm conversion if I couldn't get at least 10 inches of travel. |

You could always cut out the top or bottom bar and replace it with a curved bar. Or go with a rack from a saturn or grand am that has very wide mounting points. This would allow alot more travel. |

Brad, You need to update your location so we can see where you live and what type of riding your are going to do. If you put a Rack and Pinion, you will get some additional travel and you can also mod the frame to provide more travel. |
