I take every Empi carb apart, most have aluminium turnings and dirt in them. I have also had ones that were not fully machined and would not flow fuel.

With the progressive, all cylinders are fed from the same barrel you could have a vaccum leak at those cylinders not firing or it may be to rich or lean.

i tryed setting the set screw in the back of the carb.i even put new spark plugs in the cylinders that weren't fireing and i took the plugs out can checked them and they were getting fire.but it poped and cracked and it wouldn't idel.it was almost like it was running like it was out of time and that some of the plugs were fould.after i got tired of messing with it all day.i put the stock carb and intake back on and it runs perfect as it did before i change anything. surely that carb isn't too big to run on a 1641..?? it doesn't look like it has even been taking apart.it looks brand new..

i had the same trouble but it is fixable there are 2 choke tubes that work by springs. those are really bad for popping out of place. I had a friend actually machine a pice of aluminum to peck into place to plug them off. Also another friend of mine just tapped it and put in a set screw in them and the problems went away. It was very hard to find the problem but its an easy fix good luck hope my .02 helps out lets us know. I bought webers for my new build.

called the guy i bought it from and he said that it had stock jets in it and he had it on his motor just long enough to break it in.i told him that it was a really tight fit.he asked if it was touching the fan shround and i told him that it was tounching it.i also told him that it was against the alternator.he said that was more then likely my problem and that it was making it have a bad vacum leak.he said that i should get it pulled out from the fan shround and away from the alternater.does that sound right..??? would that cause a vacum leak..?

I doubt it but anything is possible. You will know by the pattern on the gasket. If the carb was installed after the intake was installed the carb might hit the shroud when tightened and not compress the gasket creating a vaccum leak. I would think if this was so the mixture screw would not make a difference. Spray a little bit of carb cleaner or propane by the connection and see if the idle changes.

it will rev up as soon as you start it and i adjusted the mixure screw and it didn't make any differance.it stayed the same.so does that mean its a vacum leak..??

Vaccum leak, plugged idle jet, to small of an idle jet. Check for a vaccum leak first.
