Ok so i changed my push rod tubes and put every thing back together now there is a short hiss sounds like a air compressor blow gun if you pull the trigger real quick and let off. I only hear it when starting it after it's running i cant hear the hiss any longer and it runs great every thing is torqued to spec. I have taken off the coil wire to make sure it would not start to see if i could locate it the noise it is coming from. It's somewhere around the number one cylinder have tore down the motor to the pistons 3 times to try to find it did a compression check on one and two cylinders with 5 psi difference between the cylinders what could it be. |

An Exaust leak? Put a smoking cigarette near it? But, at anytime you suspect rings, warped valves, seats , tight valves, heads not sealed, intake leaks etc etc etc, get a vacuum gauge. Make a provision if you have to, to plug it in. When you buy a gauge for $25 the instructions will come with a chart that will show you EXACTLY what your problem is. The vacuum gauge is the old man's equivalent to today's OBD2 diagnostic scan tool.A man without a compression ga, fuel ga, vac. ga or obd2 scan tool is like a cowboy w/o a gun. Dave out. |

Already checked exhaust for leaks with no luck it's never something easy for me. what ever it is sounds like it is leaking to the out side of the motor like the head is not sealed right but like i said i did a compression check and it was good 5 psi different. How would i check to see if the head is leaking what is a good method. I will try a vacuum gauge though as soon as i can get one are they very hard to use never had to use one. Or is there any one in the NKY area that would be able to help me i just want to find out what it is before something gets messed up bad like i said runs great now just hisses at start up then stops. |

Dumb question but are your plugs tight? yea i checked the plugs they where all tight. i have gone over all the easy stuff and all the hard things and have came up with nothing. i have a video i just went down and recorded now i need to figure out how to up load it you can hear it right before it starts ill post it up as soon as i can. |

It sounds like you need to adjust your distributor a little, the timing sounds like it is too advanced making it a little harder to start up, try setting the timing on 14 degrees BTDC when idling and try that, then it should be 32 degrees fully advanced above 2500 rpm. The sound I bet is the spark plug firing any fuel left in the chambers before that valves closes like a very small backfire, almost like a hiss. Its just my opinion, hope this helps. |

Hey watched the video, if the engine was cold and kicking back on the starter like that, I would start with the timing. Dells have had a whistle if the jet was a little clogged. Nice buggy by the way. Does the engine have a breather for the gen stand and valve covers?? check the hoses to see if there is a difference in the pressure coming out of either side. If there is a BIG difference then there might be a stuck/sticking valve.. Thanks Dave T |

Watched it again... Timing it is kicking back on the starter and some air is being pushed backwards out of the intake/piston/carb. Thanks Dave T |

You changed pushrod tubes, so rocker arms were removed. Just wondering if an exaust valve is n't closing, check valve clearance. It would n't be an intake or it would be back firing. |
