Got the bottom end assembled a while ago but wanted to get some head work done, got side tracked and went on to other things. Heads are done now and I'm back to the engine. I discoverd during the case assembly that when you replace studs, you can't just bottom them out or they won't be long enough. So I dry set some of the cylinder studs with the barrels and heads in place and left only 1-1.5 threads above the nuts. After removing the heads and barrels, the studs seamed loose in the case savers. I'm running 5.6" "H" beam rods, so there are tall spacers under the barrels. Maybe 3/16" taller than stock. I measured the hieght of the studs, removed them, then used Loctite, reinstalled them and let them sit over night. They feel good now, but wonder if I should have longer studs. These are chro/mol 8mm. X stock lenght. I don't believe turning the studs in further would have changed that sloppy feel, they're probably threaded in 3/4" to 7/8" deep now. Is it worth worrying about? Any feed back would be good, thanks. Dave W.

As long as you used RED locktite, you will not have any issues. You will be fine with that.

Thanks. It's been a lot of time and expense, and second quesing. I don't want to make a fatal mistake at this point. I do have a back up engine but that is a whole other set up,(WC) and I've got to much into this one.
Yes, it was red Loctite.

When I built my 2275 I ran into a similar predicament. if you bottom the stud out you may not have enough thread on the head nuts. At least that's what I ran into. had to back the studs out a little to ensure I would have enough thread on the nuts to properly torque the head.

Yep, and if you leave them out too far, they might hit your rocker shaft. :shock:
