HI i built my motor for my bug and i am needing a good carb setup, any suggestions?? for i spend my hard earned money! it is a 1600 dual port, i know i have heard some bad things but i got a great deal on a set of 88 mm slip ins, pistons and jugs couldnt turn them down! easy to replace anyways, so i will give them a shot. i put a engle 110 cam with straight cut gears, and i have stock new vw heads what kind of carb does anyone suggest, its mainly being driven on the street with occasional off road trip to that hideway fishing hole  thanks

that should run fine on a stock solex but if you upgrade i wouldnt go to big.jmo.maybe a 2bbl progressive or a set of single kadrons or something like that.but if you have a stock carb i'd run it til you decide to run a bigger motor.chad

I put a ford 2 barrel on a 2100 for my old girlfriend and it ran just as good as a Dellorto. I fabbed a manifold adapter between it and the old Dellorto intake.I tried it on a smaller 1835 and it was too rich.It came off a 1984 Ford truck with a 302c.i.(Which is a 5000cc motor!) My 3800 Buick buggy has a ford 2 barrel off a 1979 Ford 351 car and runs fantastic at all angles and grades. At Pull a Part they are $15.You cannot use 1985 and up because they are computerized (identified by the wires coming out of it.Make sure you clear your fan shroud .And use the phenolic or plastic block that comes with it for the spacer.Angle it slightly fwd so it will be more level on steep hills( would be nice).Use 2inch iron tubing about 4 " long for the runners.Auto Zone sells a chrome air breather. Use a tall K&N filter. At rebuild time all part stores carry kits and floats. Dellorto people have to eat out of Dellorto's hands. Some Jeep people use them off road so ask them how they feel about them.Use the smallest carb I can think of which has 1.08 stamped under the accelerator pump push rod.1.14 and 1.21 are common. The 1.21 is off the 351 Ford.

The progressive will be your best bet. Because without alot of time into jetting the idf's are to big, and the solex's do not idle.

Sorry. I got to put in my 2cents in again.Solex stock carbs will not idle if that cylinder shape gold thingy on the side is bad. It's only an anti dieseling valve. Remove it and snip the copper rod off and re-install it.All of a sudden it will idle great.Or just put in a fine thread metric bolt with teflon tape on it. Also those butterfly bushings wear and produce a signicant vacuum leak but you can richen up the jet to compensate. To my knowlege no one makes those bushings.

My first buggy had a 1600, with 110 engle cam and 88mm jugs and pistons. I took a weber progressive 2 barrel off a Dodge omni with a bad motor. worked great....

I think the car was like 83 model, factory carb. The intake came from a friend, not sure how much ,but Dave(passat2800) could tell you more about it, like what cars would have this carb. I dont know if you have one ,but hes a big "pull a part" fan. Dave...??

I know the intake will work with vw stock ports. It connects at the rubber boots, with no adapter plate, it even has the bolt in it that holds it down.....hey I just talked to Billy Vann(who got that intake for me) he said that Empi sells it...with or without carb. hope that helps.....

A new Weber 40 kit will work very well on your 1679. It will be flexible for the future as you build larger engines. You can change the carb to run on any size engine. You will be happy with it as long as you get it tuned by someone who knows what they are doing. They are difficult to get running right if you don't have the experience.
