It should be fine taking off in first,,unless your buggy is very heavy...do you have aluminum wheels,,,maybe go to dual carbs. |

1835 would do better with a 5 rib, maybe even down to a 3rib if its heavy or if your gonna climb a little, BUT it still shouldnt fall on its face real bad w/ a 6 rib when you dump it in first on relatively flat ground. The 3 or 5 rib will break MUCH easier, though. |

When you have only 1 carb most of the time you are starving the motor for AIR. Not gas. My 1st buggy had a 1835 on it with a 40mm dellorto on it, I put duels on it made it feel like a different buggy. Get someone to check your carb, it may need rebuilt? Check for air leaks around the base of the carb do you have a good clean air filter? Have you turned any of the adjustment screws? |

If you got the wrong cam in it, it will fall on it's face as well. |

An 1835 works really well with a VZ 14 style cam. Your tires are really wide. 10.50s would work better. The 3 rib might help if your cam has too much duration. The last 76x90.5 I built with a VZ 14 cam, Mike Fischer ported 044s and a single Zenith carb with a little coaxing would lite up 31x10.50 Michelin ATs on asphalt with stock 12 volt T-1 gearing and keep em spinning and bark them in second. It can't hurt to go back and check the basics. It could really be as simple as the throttle only opens 3/4 way or the timing be retarded. I hit a bump on day that almost close the float drop. I would change the cam before a transaxle change. Once your pulling first and second hard you might want to change to a 1.70 third and 1.30 fourth gears. In my Baja I ran a 1776 with Mikes 044 heads a W130 cam and a single 40 IDF with a 3 rib transaxle at 6000 rpms it was unstoppable climbing hills. It was much harder to drive normal than an engine with a VZ 14. Even now with my 2180 I went from 31 x12.50 to 33x12.50 tires and can feel the drop in performance. If advancing the cam timing does not help, I'll use a smaller duration cam. |
