i see on most vw powered buggies, guy are running a 4 into 1 exhaust. is this a performance reason or just preferred. i ride in southern ohio and all the guys there use a dual exhaust or 4 open pipes (some with baffles, some wide open). your opinions are appreciated. joey

Tri-Mill ceramic coated no muffler all the way. Sounds awesome and helps keep heat back a little or at least thats my 2 cents.

I think the U-bends would be killer if in mud alot...

Hes right, it keeps the heat away from the motor, and also the exhaust is protected by the motor cage from damage. Plus they sound good and are tunable by cutting off the tip.

You will get better engine performance with the 4 into 1 colleter exhaust system over duals and 4 single pipes. The collector exhaust gives you a scavenge effect of opposing cylinders that the other two methods dont offer.

Odyknuck's right, alot of that scavaging effect has to do with the fact that on a 4 into 1 aka "TriMil" all the exhaust tubes are just about equal in length. That is why it all looks like spaghetti from the back.

Yea, just like with racing headers for v-8s. They snake all over the place under the hood just so they can all be the same length!!
