Hey guys I need a little advice I have a 1641cc vw. I installed a new filter / pump from CB performance I use 10w 30 oil, The engine was built 15 years ago and stored in a barn intil I "found it". It's a dual relief case. The oil pressure ,engine warmed up, is 40psi at idle and 60 to 80 psi at 4000 rpm. I have no idea what the pressure was before the new oil pump was installed Question What the heck is going on?? Thanks BillMc |

Those numbers seem a bit high, but they are not way out of range. The calibration of your pressure guage may be an issue. Unusually high oil pressure is usually caused by a spun bearing or other oil galley component that is blocking flow, but you would have found that out by now (seized engine). The only other suspect is your oil pressure regulating plunger(s) which may be sticking in their bores ...or have stronger-than-stock springs pushing on them. |

I think I found the problem The releif piston in the front by the oil pump was frozen in the case. I used a 1/2" tap to cut threads in the piston then used a bolt to remove it. Now the oil pressure is 40 at idle and 60 at 4000 rpm but never goes over 60. Much better!! Thanks Bill |
