I have a 1974 1600 d/p .Was thinking of a 1915 is this a good allaround motor? and would i have heat prob. driveing on the street? and driveing on drit roads at slow speeds.Or should i go smaler? I am need to the a/c motor so forgive me for being dumb

A 1915 is a good all around motor. Its also the cheapest bang for the buck. It allows you to use your stock VW heads, crank and rods. Run a 110 cam and a set of dual Weber 40s and call it a day. You could have your stock heads ported or buy a set of CB Performance 044 heads allready cut for 94mm cylinders. You will have to have your stock heads and cases milled to accept the 94mm cylinders. It would also run fine on the street. |

It all depends on what your budget is. Like Odyknuck mentioned a set of dual 40 IDF style carbs will work great. You could get a progressive two barrel to work, but on a 1915, its almost to the point that the carb will be too small for the engine. You will have a hard time trying to run/tune a stock VW carb on a 1915 with a performance cam. If you don't have, or want to spend the extra money on bigger carbs, you could build a 1641 engine. You could then run your stock VW carb, or a Progressive. On a small budget, I would build a 1641, flycut stock VW heads, 8.5:1/9:1 compression, eagle 2280/engle 100 or 110/Crower 61002 cam, stock VW/Progressive Carb. On a larger budget, I would do the 1915, ported 42x37.5 "044" heads, 9:1/9.5:1 compression, Crower 61004 cam, dual 44 IDF/HPMX carbs. |

Always build the largest motor you can afford. RPM's kill motors and a larger motor will make the same power at a lower rpm. |
