Post subject:  6AL box

so today i was helping a friend of mine move and noticed that he had a 6AL box just laying on the floor. i offered to buy it off of him if he ever watned to get rid of it and he told me to take it, good deal right?! well, one issue, he found it at the scrap yard he used to work at and isn't sure if it works or not... is there any way to test one to see if it works? i can post pictures of it if need be. has the pigtail i guess you could call it running out the one end, and then a single wire with a plug of some sort runnign out the other. i see two empty plug ports on it, one on the side of the single wire and one on the long side. also, if it does work, what else do i need in conjunction with it? sorry for the lengthy post and thanks in advance!

I`m not sure how to test it but you will need a msd distributor and coil to make it work.

I didnt know you could use with 009!How do you keep the spark from jumping and misfiring?I thought thats why you needed to use the msd?

You can use the 6AL box on the 009 dist. all you have to do is use the + on the coil off and hook it with the thin red wire on the box and take the - wire off the coil and hook it up to the white wire on the box and use the orange and black wires wrapped together coming out of the box and hook it up to your coil. orange=+ black=- This should work. Make sure you use the heavy black and red wires to your battery, it will stay hot all the time, but will only come on with the ign. turned on wire for your coil + wire. Just like a car stereo.

you can test the box. i just wired up 4 of these boxes with 009's. everyone in our garage has a msd box now.

to test it......

hook the box up to battery. hook the coil wires up (orange and black) hook the small red wire to key.

take your coil wire off the distributor and hold it approx 1/2 inch away from a ground spot (shroud works)

then touch the white small wire to a ground. it should spark big time out of the coil wire to the chassis each time you touch the white wire to ground. it won't shock you either.

With the 6AL to run on 4 cyl you need to cut two of the wires. The web site has that info I don't remember the right ones to tell you. The link that DVS1 posted will have it. Its about 24 pages long all together.

If you have a hot rod or speed shop nearby most of them can test it for you, they have a system to hook them up on,thats how they check them when customers bring them back,to make sure its the box and not the customers wiring
