A buddy of mine has a 1600/1641 he's not to sure with a 40 IDF carb set up that's new. What main jet sizes should he have I know there are lots of variables but just wanted to see what size someone suggest or maybe even using the same set up. He is pulling the jets this evening to see what size are there now.

The engine bogs and as no serious go

Engine bogs with no power. Too rich. Black smoke is too rich. Wet/black plugs are too rich. Would a hotter plug help. Read the no. off the plug and pull it up. I run NGK's and that middle no. is a 5,6 or 7. ( 5 is hot , 6 med, and 7 cold). Try to get away with using a hotter plug but not to the point where it pings from pre detonation. Read up on plugs b4 you listen to me or anybody. Then change jets if you have to. A filthy air cleaner will pull and waste a lot of fuel the higher the rpm. AND ALWAYS check compression. It's just like going to work. If you can't suck it , squeeze it and hold it ,then you'll never get nowhere.
