I have a new CB aluminum bubble top case that the oil pressure is all over the place. I ran it for about 2 minutes and the oil had air bubbles all in it on the stick when checked it. The problem i think is in the oil pump. When I put the motor together the oil pump was very loose in the block even with the case torqued down. I think its sucking air from inside the case where the oil pick up goes into the pump. Has anyone else seen or had this problem? I changed the oil pump out and can change the pump with my fingers its so loose. Ive never seen one like this before and both pumps fit the same. Any help will be appreciated. The oil system is a basic full flow set up also.

If it were me I would call cb to find out what they suggest. Sounds to me like a bad deal though

Yea that's what I'm thinking. I've tried everything, even went as far as the permatex the pump around the holes to make it seal and still the same problem. Also when the motor sets for awhile it loses prime and takes for ever to prime back.

Measure the pump and block to see how much of a difference there is. You can get a pump thet is o-ringed from gene berg enterprises.

The case is about .002 bigger than the pump with the case torqued down.

Take the sloppy oil pump out and clean all surfaces and then paint the surfaces with some HARD primer. Zinc chromate for aluminum if they still make it. That should make up the difference. Maybe, just an idea, what about some medium Loctite? My press. is all over the place too. Keep us posted on your fix.

Make sure your port in the oil pump matches up with the port in the block. I have also heard of that happening.

How old is the case? I've heard about this with some of the early bubble tops but thought they fixed the problem. Worm had similar trouble out of one of his motors and it was a bubble top one of the early ones. I'm thinking the gene berg pump but prolly cost a pretty penny. Never seen the oil foam though. Or a pump be that loose in the case that's crazy

How long has it sat before last run? What type of oil? Have you mixed different brands of oil? Chad :mrgreen:

Also if you have to much oil it will get beat into foam. Have you got the correct dipstick and oil filled correctly? Just throwing some ideas out there. Got any oil in your antifreeze :lol: :lol: :lol: :shock: :roll: . Chad :mrgreen:

After it sets for about an hour it takes it a long time to prime back up. Im using castor oil 20w 50 oil and the oil level is dead on the money. I called CB today and got put on hold 3 different times for about 30 minutes each.

I talked to pat today and how basically told me nothing. He said the pump wasn't priming properly because the booster valves aren't seating off. The la st time I checked the oil booster valves have to do with relieving excessive oil pressure back to the oil sump. I talked with him for about 15 minutes and basically was told I didn't know what I am doing. He's wrong about the way a type 1 Vw oils. What it boils down to is the parts came from CB and they do no wrong. I'm gonna check with gene berg about a oring style oil pump. Maybe that will fix it.

I've tried some thing else and will see tomorrow as to whether it works. If not I will try a stock pump. Thanks for the link.

We use Schadek pumps on everything but the dry sump engines.

Has the larger discharge port, 26mm gears and designed for 3 bolt cams.
