Has any one used a electric fan instead of the one off of the alternator. And if so what CFM would be the best. For 2387 stroker...... |

Finding a 12 volt electric fan to move as much air as a stock fan would be near impossible. |

No. He's thinkin ab an oil cooler. It's been talked ab fabbin up some to blow straight on top of the jugs n heads. But probably wouldn't save much hp. Unless you was makin a drag car |

I have an external oil cooler and the fan in the shroud came apart so instead of putting another one back in i thought i would go electric. Just wondering what CFM the factory one would put out. |

I think it would work great. I have a dual fan on both my water cooled v6 buggies and they pump some hard hot air out. Pull the air UP thru it with a home made shroud. (dual fans lying face down) The shroud is the difference . With a shroud and a vacuum every crack and cranny has moving air. Blowing down, hot spots can hide.(such as under your jugs and heads)(more area of your case will love it). My w/c's stay on 160 degrees no matter how you drive and my oil temp on my a/c is 190-200! Run 2 positive wires and 2 negs to the electric motor(INSURANCE). Maybe an inline fuse on 1 pos. line for trouble shooting. Wire the radio in series on 1 of the negatives with your radio so when both circuits are bad, Hank Williams quits ...then something is wrong in Dixie! Wire it straight from the batt with a Autozone throw bar switch direct from the batt. No toggle switches to forget to turn on or go bad. Buuuuut don't be running around on a dead battery too long. Run a volt meter and make sure it has 10.5 minimum to 14. The alt. will work pretty hard til your coil will barely work.Also, I hear they make an aftermarket LARGE stock vw fan so that might be a better option for dependability. You can't win for loosing... If you have 2 whirlwinds it will choke your alternator down any way. |

Just get a welded stock fan and be done with it. |

I had a friend who had a fan such as this mounted to the cylinder head tin on each side of his drag motor. this was a drag car and ran for 10 minutes at a time. I don't know that I would recommend that for a motor that has to run and be beaten on for extended lengths of time.

I know we keep beatin this subject, but I once heard somewhere that fast moving air or water don't get as good of a chance to do the molecular transfer of heat from metal to air. maybe I am confussed but I would like to try that big aftermarket vw fan I've heard about. |

I rode with a guy who had a VW trike with the ring gear flipped and had the motor facing forward without any fan/tin. Also know of a machinist in Western PA that mated a VW to an old BMW cycle, again no fan. Riding down the highway isn't the same as puttering through the woods but the electric driven fan doesn't seem that farfetched? JMHO |

Here is the spec of what i have found I like the amps and the CFM from what I here is more then the stock one. 8 inch high performance universal electric radiator cooling fan. The fan is a 10 piece flat blade type. The motor is reversible and the fan is 12 Volt 3 Amp 2860 RPM and 1700 CFM. Four point mounting bracket kit. The high torque motor features sealed ball bearings and fully balanced blades which insure low noise levels and a long life of smooth operation. |

what about the porsche style fan?? i know its a lil pricey but that thing looks like it will move some air.. looks cool too
