Alright, Got my new motor all finished and fired it up. Oil Pressure well...Gauge reads to 90 and its pegged past that...Did some reading on the samba. From what im under standing a stock spring is approx. 62mm unloaded, and like20 or so compressed? Measuring the one I have its approx. 75 unloaded and 27 loaded. My thinking is the spring is way too long and not letting oil get to the bypass to drop the pressure.. Suppose my question would be is this correct thinking? lol Since according to what I found my spring is about 1/2" longer

Did you use high pressure springs? What weight oil are you running?

I don't mean to steal yer thread but do we really think empi or some one is going to sell us perfectly spec. oil pistons or factory set springs?I HATE THIS CHINEESE CRAP! But if we keep on buying it, they keep on making it.Had an oil line come off my oil cooler and it turned out that the pipe was jb welded from the factory? This is a buggy I bought , turn key.

tomorrow i think ima take a coil or 2 off the spring, just out of curiosity of what that will change. Monday im going to get a 26mm pump. Hopefully that solves this problem.

I learnred something the other day. This young guy went to the buggy store for a new stock cam for his 1970 bug.1970 and down has a different size cam slot I guess and same as the pump. Well... they sold him a mis matched set and his pump did not work and locked up the motor.Poor guy had $2300 invested in this STOCK motor!New alt ,lifters, machine work, inserts on and on.He had about 5 minutes of glory. He was so mad he got on Craigs list and sold the whole bug with brand new tires to a far off man for FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS!

Not sure how that relates to anything....lol My original question was about the Length of a stock spring, So i knew what I had in mine , what does kind of have me boggled, is that most stories of high pressure Ive read, involve blown filters and or coolers. But i experienced non of that.

is your oil pressure gauge mechanical or electrical (sender type)? if its electric you may have a sender for a light which acts like a switch.

Another thing i read was adding a gasket to the pump cover to drop pressure ?

I know it's off the page , but if I can just save one new guy from messing up then it is well worth it.

Its mechanical gauge, no electric.

Did the oil pressure come down any after the engine warmed up? What size pump are you running? I would never recommend adding an extra gasket to the oil pump cover. If the pressure stays that high all the time I would guess that the relief plunger is stuck in the bore.

pressure didnt come down once warm 30mm pump, plunger was sticking but i solved that problem and tried again to the same result. Maybe the plunger is still sticking ? My thought is ima try a 26mm pump

Also need to figure out stock spring size

Sounds like the plunger is sticking to me. Going to a smaller pump probably won't change things. Have you had both of the plungers and springs out? Are you springs a silver color or just a raw blackish steel color?

Yes both have been removed an fall out easily. Think my gauge took a crap, i ran it again to ser whats up and it stuck at ,75 so i cracked the lines an removed it...sitting on the bench its still at , 75. Bench has great pressure.... lol hopefully thats the problem, but i hate that i went yhrew all thst to figure it out.

Confirmed. It was the gauge. wish it had stuck earlier in this process ...Woulda saved a lot of headache!
