If your going stroker and can afford it then no brainer super case all the way. no clearancing just bolt together and ready to figure compression. only way to go. |

I'm kind of thinking that it would be added insurance against a case failure too |

If dollars are not an issue go super case. Used cases often have thrust issues. You also can order it exactly the way you want it, clearanced, bored, full flowed. I just don't see the downside. I certainly wouldn't buy a used case from across the country it could be junk and once you paid it is yours. I think a super case is like $800.00 only a couple hundred more than used. The super cases are much stronger and don't have thrust issues like the OEM cases. The best VW OEM cases were fuel injected cases with no provisions for a mechanical fuel pump. Super case may be expensive but as a wise man once say it is better to cry once and pay the price than to have to pay for it twice. |

the aluminum case is the better case once its "fixed", some of the new mag cases need a little attention also |

on the aluminum case the most common problem seems to be the the oil holes dont line up very well in the main journals and the oil pump to block ports tend to be off some also, and they also tend to need some "cleaning up" on the inside surface (sharp edges), however i have read on the samba where a couple of folks had to have a linebore done due to the journals not being completely in line or being undersized and putting to much "crush" on the bearings, these last 2 seem to be somewhat isolated problems though |

I think your chances of finding a perfect OEM fuel injected block are a bit like finding hens teeth. I have built a couple of engines in my day and the last was a 2.0 Porsche 914 the benefit to the type 4 is the all aluminum cases. I have spent big money on type 4 $h_t and it just isn't reliable like the type 1. You could always join the dark side an install an echotec for about the price of a case, Just a suggestion. |
