Rebuilding my woods buggy motor. 2332, ported SE heads, 11.5:1 CR, had an fk-44 cam. Made around 170 hp and 170 torque on the dyno. ( cant remember the #'s for sure.) Either putting an fk-43 in it (had great luck in the past) or a w-110. It has pauter 1.4:1 roller rockers. Those 2 cams are similar, but can any one tell me some real info? Has anyone run both back to back?

I know it's being done but you aren't supposed to run the ratio rockers on the 110. Going by the spec sheet the cams are all most identicle. Just the fk series is specifically designed for the ratio rockers. I know a guy that swapped a 110 out of a 2600cc engine that wore off a lobe. They installed a fk 43 because the engine had pauter 1.5.1 rockers thinking it would be a better setup but then the engine started eating pushrods.

the 110 has .392 lift at lobe and the 43 has .383. but the 43 has advertised duration of 284 and the 110 is 247. I can kinda figure the 110 will have a little more torque early on and the 43 should carry out a little further. I loved the fk 43 I ran 6 or 7 years ago, but I have never tried a w-110 with 1.4 rockers.

The 110 is what I am running now with 1.4 Pauter rockers, I love the bottom end torque it produces and it does really great all the way to 6000 rpm, I don't want the engine to see past 6000 (MSD chip) any how because of the rpm range the cam calls for. The old saying of using the 1.4 and 1.5 rockers is a trick of having a "bigger cam" but yet a small one and it widens the powerband up more like from 1500-5500 with 1.1:1 and 1000-7000 with 1.4:1, I dunno, I have never ran a FK on a 2500 before, I used to run a FK-7 in my old 2276 and it had tons of torque, but no upstairs power hardly at all and that was with 1.4 rockers. I am very happy with my 2500 and it gets up quick very well for the 3.10 and 2.36 gear that I am running and I can lope idle around in the woods 1st and 2nd gear with no problems. CB Performance sells a cam that they call it "2242" and that is the part number, I have called them and talked to them about this cam several times and they use this cam with 1.5:1 rockers and has huge success with this cam in their off-road buggies and it is custom ground based on the 110 with a little more duration and has the exact same lift (.392) as long as your heads are setup for this particular cam IMO....also the FK-44 is very close to the 110 as well.

You will have to get your heads setup with the valve spring height to have the correct spring pressure with the 110 cam, my heads are a set of S/E's as well and ported too, I am running 11.5:1 C/R also. I personally think that is why the others in the past have issues with them is because the valvetrain was not setup properly in the heads and I am talking about the pushrods too, they have to be perfect so the roller/swivel tip is on the center of the valve when it is lifted halfway, I know that we all can adjust the pushrods at the rockers to get the proper lash gap, but that will throw off the roller tip contact with the valve and it will not roll across the valve stem evenly causing wore-out valve guides, retainers coming loose, incorrect pressure on the springs, I made sure that all of the pushrods are setup perfectly to make this happen at .000" cold on both valves and have the proper contact, I went through 2 sets of pushrods to get the right setting......I know I went "overkill" on this, but I am now running this motor for 2 years and everything is still tight and lash is still set properly, I always stay on top of it to make sure it is in good shape, if I catch the rocker adjustment being off all of a sudden, I will investigate the reason why and fix it right, not just go ahead and adjust it and call it good.....hope this helps 8)

What are you trying to gain? Those HP/TQ numbers seem pretty good. If you are looking for a little more torque down low but would like to keep your top end the same I would suggest using the same cam but having it ground on a tighter lobe center.

I cant say I'm really trying to gain anything. The motor was built for the race buggy and Ran perfect for that. I then put it in the woods buggy after putting the suby in the race buggy. I loved the fk 44. We ran my motor on the dyno with both the fk 43 and fk 44. it made a few more hps with the 44 but lost a little on torque. Not enough that u would ever notice (2 or 3 ftlbs i think). I ended up with a fk-43 ground on a good scat blank. Hopefully that should help with the premature wear on the lobes. Drews had one in stock yesterday, so looks like thats what im doin! I think the fk 7 has more duration than the fk 40 series of cams... could be wrong. Thanks for the input!

FK 7 is more like a 42 with less lift

I really like the fk7 from what time I have ran it.I'm using 1:4 rockers and seem like it has bout the same low end as the 110 but has a little more on the top than the 110.IMO thanks for info.Chad
