I like the stock kind the second one seems to hold alot of dirt and mud.

i've ran both , but as dave said with the type 3 , i have pulled them off and they would be full of dirt caked up in them and mud & oil build up is an enemy to them as well , they will hold debris in your cooling fins if its clogged bad enough & thats extreme heat build-up on the already vulnerable air cooled cylinders !! :(

If its going to run in alot mudd i run the first one. The 2nd ones work good but you have to keep them clean.

type 3 tin only work on a full body car, with a sealed engine compartment, just as they were designed. draw air in through vents in deck lid, and exit all hot air to the pavement. there are small pcs of engine tin that bolt to the cylinder tin to make a continuos air flow around cylinder to exit out the bottom on type 3 tin. (look at pancake motor). None off this applys to your buggy, always run type 1 reflector plates. after there introduction (type 3) vw continued to use type 1 reflector plates in the bettle. :D

IMO, the type three run cooler. HOWEVER, the type one are eaiser to clean. BUT, we all keep these tins cleaned at all times, DON'T WE ?

I ran both of them on the same engine first set of P&Ls with the T-3 and then the second set P&Ls with T-1 tins. I couldn't tell the difference by the temp guages. The T-3 fill up with dirt and non stock T-3 tin is a pain to keep in place without safety wire.
