Post subject:  best valve train for 1915???

I currently run a 2165 with dual Idf 40”s and a 6 rib. Just picked up an engine for parts and found out it’s a 1915 with 041 Mofoco heads (not ported)….Surprise!!!  It aperies to have a stock cam, but has been welded and custom ground??? So I plan to port the heads and freshen it up and keep for a spare. So my question is; What valve train should I set this up with so I can make little changes to my carbs? What is every ones opinion on ratio rockers?? What size and when to use them?? I want this little thing to scream but still be able to run pump gas. Thanks for everyone’s opinions and comments in advance.

106 views????? Does anybody have at least an opinion? :? I’m thinking a 110 cam because that is what everyone else seems to go with, at least for a woods buggy? But what about the rockers? :?:

110 cam and 1.25 rockers and make sure you use a 5 rib tranny great combination

X2 w110 or c35 1.25 scat racing rockers and dual valve springs chromoly retainers . or a fk 41or42 and 1.4 rocker will work good .or vz 14 and 1.1 rockers The fks 41&42 are short duration but hi lift .510 to.522 with ported heads should make alot of TQ and mid-range power . Comperssion will help the TQ alot . Pump gas 93 octane 9.5to1 50/50 race gas pump gas 10.5 to1 100% race gas 11 and up

Ive got the mini wedgeports 1.25 rockers intakes matched 9 to 1 pump gas. Runs swell taken out plenty bigger motors. My buddies will confirm. Fun motor. . On cb performance go to builders choice engine kits. Pretty cool

Thank you: pipedope, wrongwayray, hyde  :!: :!:

I’m pretty sure it’s going to end up with a 110 cam, 1.25 rockers and 9.5:1

Engle fk7 with 1.4 rocker on my 1914
Excellent torque and rpm

i also run a 2165,110 cam, got dual 40 dellortos with 2BR VW heads (40x35.5 valves), had em fly cut with 11.1 comp. got all the other go fast goodies except the ratio rockers...have thought about getting them but would it make that big a difference with my set up??? (483 trans, 38 buckshots)

is it a difference through the entire RPM range or more of a bottom or top end gain???

Post subject:  Re: best valve train for 1915???

Depends on cam, the fk7 was designed for 1.4 rockers.
I chose it due to lower duration 288 and higher lift 0.50, I wanted a cam that would bring in the torque at lower rpm but still turn up,comes on strong about 2600 rpm. Nice powerband. Pulls to 6300.
Higher duration cams are for high rpms and they cost you low end torque.
A 110 cam with 1.25 rockers duration 284 lift .491

I would go no more than 1.25 rockers on a 110 cam. More lift will give more low end torque because of better cylinder filling capabilities at lower RPM. I know alot of people will argue, but 11:1 is WAY too much compression for a 110 cam or any cam with duration that low.

When you us ratio rockers you ad lift and a litte duration. Most of the time it helps the entire RPM range you will need dual valve springs and chromoly retainers .

I would like to try a fk41 ad duration 269 .050 239 and .510 lift with 1.4

I think I might have a new favorite cam fk41.
That's the lowest duration I ever seen for a cam with that much lift.
Jake Raby has the dyno for it here http://forums.aircooledtechnology.com/s ... php?t=4539
I'm gonna look hard at that one for the next engine.

is 11:1 too much? this is the first motor ive built and it does what i ask, jus lookin for a lil more..ive learned alot since it was put together and probably would have done it different..its a good topic and looking for opinions

Compression will help make TQ .Just run race gas

With some ported heads it would go up in RPMs a litte more

I'm sure it runs just fine. As Hyde stated, higher comp gives more torque. An engine with hi compression can utilize more cam duration and still retain great torque numbers along with running cooler and being overall more efficient. A camshaft should be the very last piece of any engine build so it can be matched to the rest of the components for a great overall package.
