I think I want to get away from the 3 rib fronts on this build. Driving truck gives me time to think & my aircard allows me to surf ebay while I drive. One of the searches netted me these ATV tires. ![]() They are 8ply 27x9 14 GBC Dirt Commander ATV tires. Discount Tire Direct has them for $103.00 ea. I am running cut drums on my kingpin frontend & I have a set of 5 bolt VW to chevy adapters. That will allow me to run a cheap set of 14x6 wheels from Summit. Chrome 14x6 Cragar Nomad $44.95 ea. ![]() 5.0-15 3 rib tires are 4 ply & 26" tall & have a sidewall about 4 1/2" to absorb the bumps. By putting a 27x9 tire on a 6" wide wheel it should come close to 29" tall. Add the fact that its on a 14" rim & that should deliver a 7 1/2" sidewall that can take a pounding since its 8 ply. Not to mention a tread pattern that should give a ton of side grip on the trails & this might be a killer combo. I should have just under 300 bucks in em with the chrome rims(white saves 20 bucks). Anybody else think this may work better than most tires we have been running? |

i was in the tire business for 9 years ck one thing before you commit to it , on the spec sheet for the tire ck the true o.d (overall diameter) and make sure its that tall .if its close you might have landed a good one i luv my treads up front over ribs . for instance on tire sizes my 42-15.50x15 on a 10 inch wheel mounted only measured 37 1/2 my 31/10.50x15 trexxas m/t s on my cherokee on measure 28 inches tall so sometimes there not true tire sizes and would hate to see you havin it figured out and get you wheels and tires mounted and on and say wtf let us know how it turns because i like the idea of those tires |

I WANT THESE BAD !!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() I wanted to run the chevron fronts but they are 25" diameter tires. I was trying to find a 28" dia. or taller tire that was light weight & heavy duty. These are advertised as 22lbs. which is probably more like 18 or 19. My 4 ply 3 ribs with tubes are close to that. I cant wait to lay my hands on a pair.... |
