Will be geared too low with the 3 rib and 29's, IMO.
That 1641's tongue will be hanging out just trying to keep up on a trail ride.

I was wondering which size tire would be the best for a 2 seater buggy-1641cc engine with a bigger can and a 3 rib bus tranny. the 31X15.5X15 or the 29X12.50X15? I was thinkning the 29"s to cut down on weight since im slacking on power |

I think that you would be more satisfied with a good set of 31X10.50 mud tires. Cut em a little bit and they get around plenty good enough for a 1641. You'll be able to get around better with a rough tire that you can turn over instead of a v tread that you can't.

I run a set of 31x15.50x15 v-treads just fine with a 1641 with small cam 2bbl carb good set of heads.even with steel 15x12 wheels.just recently went to set of alum beadlocks,grooved my tires and now i can turn them over with ease.dont know how much weight i shaved off but would guess around 40 lbs on each side.i also run 3rib bus tires are BKT 8 ply.$130.00 each.

hmm, decisions decisions. I may just try out the 31"s in a v~tread. Where can I purchase the BKT tires for that cheap at around KY? the cheapest v~treads I"ve found are $180/tire |

i bought them here in wv at a place called tic toc tire.got them last year for fathers day.(i have a great wife.)lol.the guy that runs it gets these tires for the coal mines and local buggy riders.he gets what ever brand he gets the best deal on in quanity.brands change often but the price is always the best you can find anywhere.he charges the mines a good price that way he can pass deals onto us buggy guys.sales more that way.i think they have a place in williamson wv.thats on ky border and in huntington wv,about 10min from ashland ky.but dont know if you can get these deals at these locations.i can check today and see what he has,ill let you know later today.chad

ok i stopped by there on my way home and he has ORT brand called traction masters they are 31x15.50x15 10 ply the v grooves are pretty steep the rubber feals harder than mine.$121.00 and some change plus tax.he has 6 left.available here at this store only.tic toc tires south.304 369 8467 owners name is brian ramsey he quoated this price to me so ask for him tell him chad gillispie from cabot give you this price. thats a good deal for this tire.if your going to wellsville maybe can come up US-119 corridor g or maybe get them brought to you but thats the deal thats going right now.but like i said prices and brands change and these may not last the weekend.chad

They will be way to stiff to conform to the terrain even if you cut them. |

I have Goodyear 4 ply 31/15/15 v thread they work for me . I think they go for about $180 now |

Whatever you get, make SURE you cut them. Not even the Firestones work worth a squirt if they aint cut. Larry |

i will agree the firestone is a good tire cut or not.but you can't get 4ply's in anything around here mostly 8 ply.firestones run around 200 a piece here,goodyears about 175,use to get a tire called mcrary's but they got bought out by STA tire i think and this was a great tire for around 125 when you could get them.when he gets rid of these ill let you know what he ends up with.but if i could get another set of the STA's that's what i will run they get good wear and they pull just fine,i'm sure someone will disagree but i like them.chad

You're right, firestone is TOO proud of their stuff. But the 8 plies work great as well, as long as you cut them correctly. I know a boy who has figured it out, and can make them 8 ply Firestones BITE like a mutha, better than 4 plies IMO, and not much heavier when he gets done with them.

i broke down and bought a very nice groover and started cutting them and you can take alot of the wieght off and even cut some of the side wall.they are not much heavier than the 4 ply's cut them all the way down to the top ply and still have a little protection left.
