I've put together a 2276cc air cooled engine, witch is 1/2"-9/16" wider than stock. So i have to modify both the sheet metal and the header. Header is an older 1/2"I.D. S&S. The #4 tube was welded to the collector but I've disected it. I'm also going to have to shave the top edge of the bolt on EMPI aluminum valve covers. Question, best method of widening the header; ie, cut locations and sleeve with 1 5/8" I.D. pipe. Pictures would be nice. Thanks Dave.

You don't have to modify the tins or the headers, just put them on, they will work just fine, the only part you need to make something for is the spacers that goes in between the fan shroud and the jug tins to fill in the gap and just use a longer bolt. I have done the same thing on my 2276 and alot of people does this too. Oh, buy a 1-5/8" header, you will like it better and it helps it alot.

Chad is right, I got stock width header on my 2500. It'll go with a little effort, just wont fall on like on a stock motor.

Thanks. I'll try the header again, mite go with the collector cut loose. I probably will get 1 5/8" header befor the end of the year. For now I just want to finnish it. Work hit a bit of a dry spell after Christmas, just got caught up. I hope to have it running with in the next 7 weeks, lots to do and buy. So I have to make due with some of what I've already got.
