What tranny/drivetrain setup do you chaindrive guys run with the big v8's

Are those stronger then 091's? If not what's the reason for the auto's in those but not"little buggies"?

thye probaly wont hold up to a regular buggy,but with the chain gear reduction they work awesome

Well...
There are manual bus tranny chaindrives out there and they work great. (Bugkiller101,Firebug)
The chaindrive reduction allows for the use of an auto tranny because it takes away the load on the tranny. You dont HAVE to run auto w/ CD.
It is possible to use a fully auto tranny in a regular buggy. A man I know ran one in an inline two seater with pretty good success for a few years, and even did pretty good hillclimbing in it. Another guy (from Ga) trail rides one all over the place up at D&K right now. But it requires some internal beefing up and externally cooling it helps a ton, and to work really well it needs to be in a light buggy. You loose about 25% of your hp thru using an auto on a conventional buggy, also.

A better option (IMO) to go auto in a conventional non-CD setup is the autostick conversion. A 6rib main body mated to an autostick bellhousing. Four gears, a clutch pedal AND a torque convertor. Works great. Bruce1's wife has one that works killer. Buggy66 on here is a pro on building them.

Ok Larry so how does that work? you clutch and shift still? Sorry I'm into re-engineering everything(doesn't always help) but its fun. So the more info I get on different ideas and hardware the more I can play :lol:

From what I understand, you only need to use the clutch when you switch gears, or move from neutral to in gear. You can be cruising along in whatever gear and hit the brake, and come to full stop, then just let off the brake hit the gas and go, without knocking it out of gear or touchin the clutch.

Yep that says it all in a nut shell. My wife LOVES it. If you ride more trails than EXTREME hill climbing it is the way to go. She had never drove a stick shift of any kind. She starts out in 2nd and leaves it there most of the day. Works great for her. Larry that owns the Speed Shop in Harriman Tn. builds a lot of them.

Ok so you shift like a manual, but have a stall like an auto, I like it. Lost power like an auto? If not whats an 091 conversion cost?
