I picked up some new bus axle boots on Saturday. Got one installed and ready to bolt on and found some embossing on the retaining ring. This prevents the 2-bolt strap from sitting flush with the flange and the cv joint. Questions: what are the 2 bolt straps used for? Does it matter if they are on there or not? Did the parts place sell me the right ones?

Bad thing is the parts place isnt open until tuesday again.

Thanks for your help.

I have been told the two bolt plate helps to hold the CV in place. Kind of a really big washer. I took mine off a few years ago. I hope they are not that important.

Well I ran with out them for two years because I didn’t know any better. But now I know that they are suppose to be there. I bought some and put them on. They say the bolts work lose but use blue lock tight all the time. Didn’t see a difference either way?

Once I saw the straps didnt fit flush, I look at it as if the straps hold the rubber boot flange on better. Maybe its for the entire setup. I'll probably go ahead and exchange the other two that haven't been installed. But definately add the blue locktite to the mix.

Thanks all.
