It all depends on the amount of money you want to spend... Most of my buggy have used cables from a hardware store with wire clamps. I have always used steel brake lines to run the cables thru. On my latest rebuild, I added a hydraulic clutch and a Morse throttle cable. I really like the Morse cable but I have heard a lot of people do not like the Morse Cable. |

I dont like running the throttle cable through a tube. It gets jammed up with mud & debris. I always weld eyelets along my frame & run the cable through them. Usually 3 is all I need to route the cable. I have done this for almost 20 years and never had a failure yet. This method leaves the cable exposed & as long as the eyelets are placed in the spots you need to redirect the cable there is nothing to gum things up. I always used the eyelets you bolt in since they have no sharp edges. ![]() You can bolt them in but I like to weld them to keep em in place. I usually run wire rope from Lowes since its cheap. Most Lowes sell a ferrule that you loop the cable & slide both ends through & crimp it which is perfect for the throttle pedal end. ![]() Total cost including eyelets is about 10 bucks. I usually run 1/16th which is overkill but lasts forever. Make up a second cable & keep it in your tool box. Youll never need it but its cheap insurance. Use a length of 3/8" brake tubing to pass the cable through your fan shroud. usually 4 inches is plenty. Just remember to avoid sharp edges so the cable doesnt wear on it. If you are going to run a clutch cable use a stock VW cable & a cable shortener that buggy shops carry. I use the stock Bowden tube to redirect the cable at the trans. |

yeah for the crips, good idea but i dont have a nicropress tool. i may be able to find one. how do you all secure the wires to the pedal assemble? |

Usually Lowes has the crimp tool there in the wire rope dept. I make my loop there & crimp the connector before I leave the store. I make a loop about the size of a nickel & I run washers on both sides of the loop with double nuts to keep them in place. That bolt then threads into my pedal & I put another nut on the back to secure it. Heres the order.....I use a 1 1/4" long grade 8 bolt. I put a washer on it then the cable loop then another washer followed by double nuts leaving just enough slop so the loop doesnt bind. Then I screw this into the threaded hole in the pedal & put a nut on the back to tighten it well. |

I have used cables with the crimp connectors. I have never used a tool to crimp them. I have a short section rail road track that I place it on and beat it with a small sledge hammer. Hasn't failed me yet. |

i have always used wire cable from Tractor Supply. run it in 5/16 break line. the trick to keeping it from binding with crap in the line it to use a much larger tube than cable, and run the break line as close to the throttle peddle and carb set-up as possible. it will cost you like $15 to set up a nice clean lookin throttle cable that will last as long as your buggy. |
