Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had some pics of there shifter setups. Do you have to have the shaft on the shifter perfectly aligned with the rod on the trans. So would you have to have some kind of riser to set your shifter on.? Also if anyone has some pics of there cutting brakes setup i could use some ideas. This is the next step in my build and could use some ideas. Thanks always Nick |

One thing to consider it tilting the tranny. Get it tilted as much as you like with the cv flanges still in stock location. Then try to keep the shifter rod fairly strait with the tranny. I actually used one shifter box slipped over another shifter box. One of many opinions , I'm sure.

nick here is my old setup. shifts very smooth. i just built a little tunnel for the cutters to set on and extended the shifter rod. my rod just lays on the floor and the shifter ball just goes in the cup. i never raised the rod up into the shifter or anything.

In all of my previous buggies we bent an "S" into the shiftrod so it lined up with the trans. Sorry, dont have any pics. It shifted ok like that but never really felt right if you know what I mean. Put it this way, Im glad the shift rod in my baja is going straight into the trans |

So you want the rod from the shifter at pretty much exactly the same height as the rod coming out of the nose cone? |

If you tilt (slope) the tranny the shifter rod will also be tilted (sloped) and the shifter box will be tilted (sloped) . Line them all up and the shifter will work smoother. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it

I see thanks for for all the input guys. Mine does have a little slope in it (trans) so i will make the adjustments with the shifter. But you do want the shifter rod the same height as the trans nose cone rod correct?? |

I'm thinking that if the tranny slopes then the shifter rod will slope also and therefore the shifter rod will not be parallel with the buggy frame , hence the shifter will be closer to the frame not the same height.

Basically if the tranny tilts everything else has to tilt with it nose cone rod, shifting rod, shifter platform, shifter rod everything. I wish I had pics, mine was set up with two u joints and set down to the right of the old box. It worked great. |

i just raised mine because the shift rod sat at a downward angle and the ball on the bottom of the shifter bearly went down in and it was real sloppy i used 1 1/2 angle iron and made a box |_| like this left it open toward the rear no reason but it raise it 1 1/2 and shifts smooth and it is tight now also it works well if that helps |

i just did mine to bolt to a six rib and all we did was tilt the shifter box down in the front and re weld it and it worked just fine. kevin |

My old rail I did an S curve but it was hard to get it adjusted. The new rail has a high shift box and the shift rod is straight and looks a little simpler to get adjusted correctly. Old rail.

a friend had the same problem with the ball not reaching the shifter. he welded a socket on top of tht shifter . been 2 years and it still works fine. |
