i found a guy with a 1915 turn key for $2000 but he is from Ohio and its pickup and i cant drive that far

Do you guys think a stock 1600cc is enough power to go out and have a good time with i also have a 3 rib in it. Or should i go and buy a bigger motor the 1600cc needs a little work too and im afraid that it will bogg out climbing. Tell me what you guys think thank you |

How big are the hills you want to climb. Are you new to buggies. I suggest you fix that 1600 to where it runs reliable and go out and have some FUN!!! When you fill you are ready, then you can go bigger---tires,trans,eng,frame,seats,brakes,wheels,beam,a-arms,trailing arms,ect... The point is have FUN!!! |

Just need to remember that a lot of guys out there started with a stock motor.Matter of fact you will probably have more fun because if you break something you dont have to worry about spending a ton of money to fix it.Plus evrything is more of a challenge,so you can have fun all day long.Just tune it up and go have a blast. |

No such thing as enough power. Just when you think it's got enough, you'll want a little more. A 1600 isn't going to take you too far on the hills, I know from experience. Think big, entry level for the hills seems to be the 1915cc or whatever you can afford from there. There is no replacement for displacement. |

Trail riding the 1600 would be ok, hills well thats different and you will need some HP's. I am running a 1915 with a 3 rib and I climb the hills that I have the guts to climb. The Wild Kids |

Then it sounds like you have made your mind up. My next question is the big factor----What about funds for bigger eng? That is always my big problem and for others also! If you have the money then what can I say. I started with a 1600 4 buggies ago and now I am building 4 seat with a 2276. I am going to build a 2332 soon as able to get FUNDS! I stiil say run that eng and Just have FUN!!! |

I would keep saving and run what you've got for right now. If you just getting into it see what its all about first and find out what you really want. You may decide that suspension is more worth the money or something. Also the bigger the power, the more you may need to look into the parts tied to the motor. |

I have seen some places that you can get some short blocks-[not complete] engs for close to that amount. Ask the guys and galls here and you should receive. I will try to find some info and ask a friend who builds eng for others about cost for one. |

Get your buggy running good go have fun keep saving,you can find complete buggys sometimes for the price of a motor. Because bigger motor means bigger trans means bigger tires means good brakes,once your bit it is hard to stop so just go out and enjoy and keep your eyes open for a deal! |

If you just getting started I would suggest building the motor you have now. If the motor is in fair condition you could make that motor go places that alot of these guys with big motors wont. Take that case and have it decked. buy a set of 88 slip in pistons and put a VZ15 cam in and it will screem. That is what I did with my firsat buggy and it did very well. It had plenty of bottom end torque and would turn up good to. you can do this for about 350.00. |

reserch buy the books on vw motors then you will have a knowledge base to either attempt your own work or talk inteligently to a qualified builder or tell a good builder from B.S. If you ride long enough you will learn to do some work on thes things! |

If you got a rebuildable 1600 DP right now, I can just about guarantee you he can build it to 1915 w/ all new guts for $1500, probably leave you with enough cash to take a big bite out of a set of duals for it , too, if you dont want new heads. before i got my 1915 a few guys i know from wv said that if i were to go from a stock motor and put 88's on it without machining the block that you had to be careful when running those because if you hit a water hole and it comes up over the heads the rings will crystalize because the walls are thin on the jugs what do you guys think on that |
