Just Bought a 1963 Volkswagen two seat rail buggy, has 1200 VW Engine on it. Has CNC Single lever brake, Two 4-point harnesses. The bad, Engine seized, rear wheel cylinders leaking bad, Tires are brand new (but at least 8 years old), starter doesn't turn. needs battery, air cleaner, and possibly many other things. Front shock tower on driver's side is rotting out and all boots are dry rotted. but the rest of the buggy is solid. no title. Was it worth $800

Seems like a fair price for a complete buggy. Post some pics to get a better idea what your dealing with.

Your front end looks a little different than mine. I was going to add supports to it, but it is thin metal and curved. Will probably end up cutting it off and making my own.

Hopefully the 50 year old engine doesn't grenade on my first run. Lol. Thanks pal. Was having second thoughts about buying the thing. Glad I came here. :)

just realized that you're in columbus. only about 2 and a half hours from me. any tips on how to haul the thing. Don't have money for a trailer at the moment. i saw pics online that have some kind of hitch bar attached to the front of the buggy, but figured that would make some excessive wear on tires pulling it like that.

Cost anything to get into wellsville?
Got a feeling it could be an expensive trip. Lol. First hard ride is guaranteed to break something on my 50 year old machine.

The tins are missing off the cylinders. If you don't have them you need to find them cause it won't last long without.

Wellsville is free to ride . Better to go with a group or at least have someone that knows it good. Wellsville is hard on good equipment.

I have to disagree on "free to ride" part Dave, even if I drive back onto the trailer, the weekend there still cost me several brain cells and a damaged liver.
Fixed the last part, "Wellsville is hard on even the best of equipment." The guaranteed best way not to break stuff when you go to Wellsville, is to leave it on the trailer.
Besides do we break stuff or do we just find the weak spots?

The drive line "might" be 50 years old but that chassis isn't. Looks like a little TLC and you'll have something to work with. Lots 'o luck.

I have the upper tins, had to trim them today to make them fit. got a steering brake issue, changed wheel cylinders, then bled out my brakes. have really good pressure on brake pedal, but when i push the lever forward, the pressure leaks off. Was reading online that you have to ride and re-bleed them for it to be correct. put on plastic pushrod tubes (using these to test engine). If she doesn't explode, i'll change all the base and head gaskets, install new pushrod tubes, then start on accessories. If she does blow, might be parting it out.
