Yes you read correctly "back up camera". Laugh if you will but I am looking for anyone who has any information on back up cameras. The new buggy is a little high in the back and I cant see anything back there and I really do not want to take out the radiator on a tree when I have to turn around in the woods. Not to mention I usually have three kids in the back seat who get sick of me saying "duck"

Any thoughts?

I had one on my old car, it sucked. I guess if you wanted to spend $$ for a good one it might work, but the cheap ones are just that, cheap.

The ones like on new toyotas built in to the rear view mirror are super nice. I wonder if a man could salvage one out of the junk yard...

That would take a lot of work those require the use of the body control module to work. On the other hand they do sell aftermarket mirrors that have a screen built in but I fought they can work after being subjected to the elements like rain and mud

The elements were my concern. I know the ones they sell at the local auto parts stores are more than likely one grade better than the ones you can buy at Wal-Mart. And from what it sounds, they are all junk. I have used the tree method in the past but I now have a radiator back there to worry about.

Been more than one time when I wish I had one. I backed up into a tree with my friends new Rubicon Saturday good thing it was bumper on tree. As for quality I had been working on 2.5 ton delivery trucks some had really nice ones with proximity sensors. The managers said they were in the $300 range.
