My uncle is a small engine mechanic. He is only 5'2. lol

i just bought a new mower this season (wow are they expensive) I figured after years of pulling lawnmowers out of the trash and getting them to "work" for a season it would be nice to have a new reliable lawnmower. got it home pulled it out of the box and assembled it. felt it out and didnt like how low the handle was but oh well. gave it its vitamins and took it outside. pulled the rope and it turned about a qaurter of a turn and stopped dead (bout snapped the rope) after a minute or 2 of investigation i found the handle had to be raised from shipping location to usable location. with the handle in shipping location it protruded through the deck and was an "interference" fit with the blade. after relocating the handle it runs great but has a nice ding in the blade

I got a stupid lawn mower story. Bout 20 years or so ago, I went to DIY and bought a brand new lawn mower. I brought it home, put it together, and when I went to start it, the darn motor was locked up. I couldn't pull the rope. So I got all mad, brought it back up to the store, took it to the counter to exchange it. The girl called someone from the lawn mower department to come over. He comes over and asks what's wrong, I told him that the motor would not turn over, that it was locked up,so he pulled the lever down, and pulled the rope, and it started right up. I just looked at him, said, oh, ok. And pushed my mower out of the door. I didn't know what that lever was for. That was the first mower I saw with that brake lever. Made me feel about 2 inches tall at the time. :oops:

This year i started a small engine repair shop and just had to share this with all ya . A customer brought in his new toro mower in with a no start issue , diagnosis was coil failure . after replacing the coil i gave it a pull and got a slight wiff of antifreeze and started chuckling because all i could think was our little air verse water controversy ! well here to find out the guy winterized his mower with antifreeze in his gas and oil for winter ! ! i didnt have the heart to tell the wife when she came in to pay the bill , just said have him give me a call on some preventitive maintenence for future reference ! im sure all you have had some funny stuff like this happen in your life but i had to share this expeirence with you . jason

I rescued a real nice heavy duty Dayton drill press out of a scrap yard I worked at. It came from a local rental company, the spindle was froze and the quill wouldn't move. The press was like almost new and why it was all screwed up was a mystery. I got the thing home an started to take it apart and noticed that someone had smeared cosmoline all over the quill and spindle. In case you don't know cosmoline is a anti rust paste that looks like grease but sorta hardens over time. All I can figure is the boss told someone to lube the drill press and they grabbed the cosmoline and went at it. Because the stuff looks like grease and has the same consistency as grease in the beginning everything was fine. As the drill was used the stuff seeped into the bearings causing the spindle to lock up. The boss must have gotten pissed and tossed it into the scrap. I now have a really nice Dayton drill press, with no rust on it, all it cost me was some time and some gasoline to clean it up.

yea i got a good walk behind lawn mower one time that way. done Electrical service call and the owner ask if i could haul this mower that was in pieces down to the curb for her because it was broke. and her boy friend couldn't fix it. come to find out the two set screws that held the pulley to the drive shaft was missing, and you could tell it was just sitting there spinning for a while. .86 cents and two set screws later from the local hardware store it was up and running. i have a 68 model 125 cub cadet rider that i got and all it took was a carb kit and 2 new back tires, and thats been 10 years ago and its still running strong.

I got a brand new pressure wash give to me for free because the "POS never ran" Here they filled the oil clear to the top of cap probably about 3qts in it Drained some oil and it fired right up, smoked for a while but all good now

When I was a kid, our neighbor that lived across the street was prepping his car for a vacation. He was going to change the oil so it was ready to go. He drained all the oil and then changed the filter and added 4 quarts of oil to the engine. About 20 miles into the trip the car had to be towed. He later told us he had drained the transmission fluid and then added 4 quarts of oil to the engine. Needless to say the engine and transmission were not doing to well. He was some big engineer for the air force base that designed early warning detection. I hope he did his job better than car maintenance.

My brothers buddy said he kept getting streaks all over his windshield and it would get worse when he used the squirters. Found out his car was low on oil so he put oil in the thing that looks like oil squirting out. This thing.... haha
