I remembered that my clutch was slow to engage in tough spots.... well I found out why:


Is this just grease from where someone packed the needle bearing full? I'm 90% sure that's what it is since its grease. Think brake cleaner will take care of it? Also... do you think my wheel have much life left?

Take the flywheel off and replace the o ring and main seal. That should solve your problems. 8)

The issue is with the pilot bearing! look at the grease pin wheeling out of it. Spray it out really good with brake clean or carb cleaner and apply a light amount of anti-cease or copper grease. More is not better as the input shaft spins inside the pilot bearing and sling excess grease everywhere.

Note: clean the flywheel and replace the friction disk as there is no saving one once it has grease on it.

I've soaked oily clutches in gasoline and let them dry in the sun and they worked like brand new. Kevin is absolutely rite. That big O ring is Very important. Always put a new one on and clean out its grooves. I don't know how oil gets thru but it only takes a little to bring trouble. Oh and DO NOT USE ANTI SEAZE! It will glue your clutch to your flywheel .Which in a sense is fine, but your gears will not slow down enough to engage EXCEPT for 4th gear because it is more less a 1 to 1 ratio. Your 1st - 3rd and reverse will go rip! rip! as you try to engage.I tried anti seaze once and swore to God my trans was bad. Half the purpose for monkey snot thick trans gear dope is to slow the gears down to help change gears. IF! your clutch ever does get glued just floor jack one tire off the ground and crank the motor in 1st gear. While idling let some one release the floor jack and it will break loose.

oh yeah... push the clutch in as the tire hits the ground.
